I'd still rather have a whole dollar than 50 cents.

Unless this is some scam where he is getting the money back which i severely doubt.

doh. Deke is from Congo. Yao is from China. They donated that much because it's their country. That's patriotism.

Is tracy from darfur? heck, does his lineage come from darfur? it probably doesnt and yet he went there and put up a foundation for the people of darfur. it isnt even about the money. but giving a damn for people halfway around the world who arent related to you at all.

and cmon. wow. the hate. Antisonic and Yaozza. I cant believe clutchfans tolerates this kind of members.

It's amazing that with the OP and the topic and tone set for this thread that people still find a way to get a jab a T-Mac. Stupid.

Appreciate the thread, OP, and it's nice to see some T-Mac appreciation, even if it isn't for his game. This is a great thing he's doing. Relieving someone's suffering/poverty to any degree is noble and deserves thanks.

Thanks OP and big thanks to T-Mac.

My point is that "he's a humanitarian" has become the new "his teammates suck." Not saying that you're doing it with this thread, but I've seen it trotted out many times by the TOFs as of late.

So you would support the Rockets signing the Dalai Lama or the late great Mother Teresa to a multimillion dollar contract?

He is doing a good work for places in need.

As someone mentioned before, both Deke and Yao are funding and supporting their own country. McGrady is supporting a completely different place and is spreading awareness.

A couple of posters seem to think that McGrady used this as an excuse to appease the Gods to grant him indescribable basketball abilities and world domination. I think it's just.... charity....

I'm tired of people who have the nerve to criticize a person who is willing to donate anything at all to charity and on top of that visit the place where people are in danger!

Cmon people, enough is enough. Criticize him for basketball and his playoff failures...so be it. Its JUST A F*****N GAME!

There's people out there who are dying because they are a certain skin color or a religion. There are people out there who don't get to eat everyday. There are people out there who are EAGER TO LEARN and recieve an education but they can't get it! There are babies born with AIDS and other types of disorders in 3rd world countries, where most of them die at a very young age. There are many orphans out there who will NEVER get the help that they need!

We (myself included) are spoiled here in America. What we may call "not livable" or "inhumane" over here would be a luxury in most other countries, including the country where my parents grew up in (India).

There's no government assistance, theres no free education, no healthcare, very few and limited orphanages, etc. for most people in these countries.

I mean, people here were b*****n and whining about not having power or their preferred food for a few days after the hurricane....welcome to their world people!

(I know some people had it worse than others with damage to their homes/cars, but for those who didn't have it that bad and were still complaining, I lost all respect for them)

I've seen it with my own 2 eyes in India and I've visited there many times. Its REALLY SAD what I saw over there.

You see about a 100 orphans on EVERY train you get on over there, begging you for any little $ you can give them. I remember as a 5 year old, seeing kids my age at that time and younger, some of which were blind or handicapped, all on their own, while I had my family with me.

Luckily, my parents were blessed, and were able to go to school and make it here to America, and were able to give those orphans something. Even though they can't give them much since there were so many, they know how easily that could've been them as children in a 3rd world country.

I know my parents were happy to eat once a day growing up in the 1950's/60's in India, with their parents eating anything that was left over. They lived that way until their children grew up, finished school and made money and were able to send them money by the late 1970's.

But just know that we are blessed, and that WE should give as well as celebrities. Obviously celebrities can give more $ and can have a bigger impact because of fame, but don't criticize how they do that. The fact that they are willing is more than enough.

Just ask yourselves, when was the last time you were willing to help out. Its easy to say, "let the celebrities do all that, they have all the $". But we have to do our part as well

Even if its $1, that would do a lot in other countries. Like Michael Jackson said, "Look at the man in the mirror"...its easy to criticize, but until you've seen it in person and actually experienced life outside of our life here in the U.S., you really don't know how bad people really suffer out there all over the world.

I'm not saying people don't suffer here...some people are just as unfortunate here from their childhood. But in all honesty, ANYBODY who is able to attend school and is able to pass a drug test here, is more than able to survive here compared to some other places around the world.

In other places, many people can't go to school since its not free, and there are only so many jobs available that can actually feed a person or a family.

So please stop criticizing ANYBODY who is willing to donate their time and money for charity and dire situations.

Who cares about what he can and can't do on the court. If I'm Les Alexander, knowing that his contract is helping others in the world who truly need it, makes me feel a lot better about the situation.

Just know that there are MUCH MORE IMPORTANT THINGS OUT THERE THAN BASKETBALL, SPORTS, and ENTERTAINMENT.

Instead of criticizing somebody, why don't you go do something about it!

    AntiSonic,

It must take an unimaginable amount of energy to focus solely on a person's negatives the way that you do with McGrady. Even if I were so blinded by disgust as to summarily condemn McGrady's entire 2008 campaign (ignoring the good games he did have) as an act of complete treason, I'd have to be absurdly narrow minded to ignore the years he ended up carrying the team when Yao was out due to...oh gosh...injury. Further, I'd have to be overcome with a Limbaugh-esque blind hatred to not be able to put my own selfish feelings aside and give a person credit for an immense humanitarian effort without having to sling non-topical mud.

As to your question about Saints of the world, if they could fill in for Yao and Yao's responsibilities the way that McGrady did pre-2008, yes I'd be happy with them on my team. If Deepak Chopra can lead Ryan Bowen, Juwan Howard, Chuck Hayes, et al on respectable, extended runs, he can damn sure be my shooting guard.

Your obsession with him would be amusing, if your fonts were not so obnoxious.

So you were too tired to read this Tracy appreciation thread and respond too, huh? And they're many people who don't see Tracy that way so what was your point?

I also wish Tracy well no matter where he ends up, hopefully it will be here for the entire season...

Here's a blog about his Darfur efforts and the significance behind "3 points"

"For McGrady, '3 Points' represents the goals he hopes to help achieve in Darfur -- peace and protection for the oppressed, and punishment for the oppressors."

Even if you think Tmac "quit" on the Rockets (which I think is absurd), Who cares???

how does it hurt a multimillion dollar company like the Rockets if we don't win the title?? All winning a title does is make the team more $.

As for us fans, sure we are lucky and blessed to be able to afford to take our family/friends out to a game or a many games. Sure we work for that money and sure that money is valuable, but if we don't win or perform at a high level, how does it really hurt us as fans or the team?

More than likely, we will still be alive. We aren't being killed for our race or religion if we don't win.

We will still be able to afford something off the dollar menu somewhere or be able to buy a 60 cent candy bar, if the Rockets don't win.

We will still have our health and comfort if the Rockets don't win...and if we do get sick, most of us can go to a doctor or the ER or go to a pharmacy and get some medicine right away, instead of hoping help will come every few months or years.

We will still be able to send children to state-funded public schools if the Rockets don't win. We as adults can go take classes at a community college or university to make a better living for ourselves in the future if the Rockets don't win.

So in all honesty, WHO GIVES A RAT"S A** if the ROckets don't win a game or don't play well, or if Tmac isn't healthy enough to be a productive player?? If his salary can help others Who REALLY NEED BASIC needs in life to survive, then I'm fine with that.

Anybody who earns their money should enjoy thier money, because everybody does work hard for their money. If you wanna buy big HDTV, or a luxury car or home, or expensive clothes...thats fine.

With the opportunity you were given, you worked hard and didn't take it for granted like other people do. But all I ask is that you remember that there are people out there who arent' able to eat everyday and don't have the basic needs to survive. Just do your part and help out in any little way you can...because we truly are blessed.

I hope you change your views, because to be quite honest, you should really go visit a 3rd world country and see the orphans who are blind and disabled, and see the thousands of people living in slums and in poverty, before you think that a game or sport like basketball is more important than the lives of children and people who are suffering EVERY DAY OF THEIR LIVES...

I GUARANTEE that that will change your life and your views...it definetily did for me as a 5 year old seeing orphans begging for money or food in India. I'm 20 years old now, and I remember that to this day and I will never forget it, and when I'm done with school and earn money, I will hope to donate like my parents and try to make a difference in this world...hopefully you will learn to do the same one day.

Lighten up, Francis. Nobody's diminishing his efforts.

All I'm saying is TOFs are using them as a shield to deflect any and all criticism. Misrepresent that all you want, you're just proving my point.

JYD, I sincerely apologize for inadvertently derailing your thread.

The only thing Tracy failed at was staying healthy.

Great job Tracy, we should all care so much.

Where exactly do they do this? Are there even any TOFs left on this board? I have noticed no such thing, especially not in this thread. Do not play it off as an inadvertent diversion. Nobody tried to use his humanitarian efforts to excuse his poor play, yet you came in here and tried to dismiss that imaginary argument. I don't find it amusing at all, and it's becoming incredibly irritating.
