That is a logical impossibility. You may have generalizations about the black race that can be set aside once you know someone, but you can't have generalizations about "part" of a group, unless you redefine the group. And no, you can't divide the group into "those black people I have generalizations ab out" and "those black people who I don't generalize about," since that distinction is only created a posteriori to your initial generalization.
Its to much a pain in the azz to go back and post the discussion I was having with RM95. So I would suggest you go back and view the dialoge. But in summary, deadbeat dads were not being discussed, becuase deadbeat dads had not yet entered the conversation. It was over single unwed mothers that were continuing to have babies while receiving welfare. So when you post and I ignored you, I guess to get a response you AGAIN put words in my mouth and call me a "poor people basher." But you wanna talk deadbeat dads, lets talk about them. Yes they should pay, yes they have a responsibility. But you know what, the few hundred bucks a court might have them pay can never replace the two family household this kid deserves. And if you can't offer a newborn baby the basics in life, your on welfare, the OTHER fathers to your other babies are no where around, why have more children?? Its not mother bashing, its demanding some of these girls act more responsiblity. This is not about the girl that has made a fmaily with her husband/guy friend, and the guy walks out adn now she needs the assistance. I have already estblished that, and personally if your going to pick fights with me on this board, the least you can do is read the whole post
I did read the whole post. You gave ONE LINE to deadbeat dads and moved on. A couple of notes I found about welfare mom's: - The family receives benefits for only 12 months. A review of open cases during March, 1996 showed that half of the cases which closed during that month had been open for less than 6 months. Of the remaining open cases, about 84% had been open for less than two years. Less than 6% remained open after 4 years. Successfully enforcing child support can shorten a family's need for cash assistance benefits by an estimated 6 months. - More than half of welfare and food stamp recipients are children. Most adults who receive benefits are single parents who face multiple barriers to employment such as a disability or lack of education, experience, transportation and child care. Most people who receive cash assistance do so for short spells, stopping when they find work, marry or otherwise become ineligible. While some recipients may have more than one welfare spell during their lives, 50-75% last less than two years. Only 10-20% of cash assistance spells are for longer than five years. Seventy percent of cash mothers receiving cash assistance participate in the labor force, according to a 1995 Institute for Women's Policy Research study. - The average number of children in a welfare family is 1.8. - Most welfare families have two or fewer children. A mother with two children typically receives a maximum of $403 a month. The maximum grant amount increases by approximately $61, or an additional $15.25 a week, for each individual household member. Welfare benefits have actually decreased nationally while out-of-wedlock births have increased. From 1970 to 1990, checks fell by 36% (adjusted for inflation), while the out-of-wedlock birth rate increased by nearly two-thirds. The states with the lowest welfare benefits have the highest Illegitimacy rates.
There you go assuming my statment was about ALL welfare receipents. Why do I even bother with you. Its just to d@mn hard to arge with someone always putting words in my mouth.......
while the out-of-wedlock birth rate increased by nearly two-thirds. Interesting. This seems more related to my post. Wanna discuss this and the consquences of THEIR actions. Defend the babies for once, and not your agenda of winning a fight by placing words in my mouth
Your forgot the last line of the stat: The states with the lowest welfare benefits have the highest Illegitimacy rates. I'm not saying it isn't wrong to have children for money. I'm saying that you are basing a whole lot of energy in opposition to these "girls" when, in all likelihood, they represent the smallest possible segment of the welfare program. Sure seems like an awful lot of piss and vinegar over something that insignificant. Why do I even bother with you. Its just to d@mn hard to arge with someone always putting words in my mouth. Please, OH PLEASE, don't "bother with me." I suggest the ignore function.
So now I am representing EVERYONE in the welfare is doing it for the money? MORE WORDS in my mouth. Is this a common defense for you Jeff, fight battles by lying? Its not going to work, but, it shows how your reaching to win something. Nice try, but lets go back to the original point, which somehow you have managed to distort into this battle of "im bashing poor people" no wait, "im saying guys shouldnt be responsbile", nooooo its not that now, now its "well those that abuse are so small, so why mention it?" First off, before I begin, where did you get that news bit?
I'm not going to argue the point any longer. The whole argument is stupid to begin with. I don't even know why I bothered getting involved. You're right about everything. You win.
Thank you everyone for joining in on this weeks show on how to turn a thread about a mans possibly racial comments on his sexual preferences into mothers on welfare... stay tuned for scenes from next weeks show on how to turn a thread about catos resergnce at the center position to how to make excellent white chocolate macadamian nut cookie. until then, happy posting.
Why give up Jeff, I thought you were making a very good argument. Please ignore those who talk about this thread has gotten way off issue or whatever. I love debates.
I think the reason deadbeat dads are rarely discussed is because most guys no they are not likely to be held financially responsible. Girls on the other hand need to recognise that they are going to have to take care of their babies. If they don't want to be unwed mothers, the could stop doing their damnedest to procreate before they are married.
