Most entertaining (in terms of how it's presented in the movie) I think would be the Rocky vs. Clubber rematch. Since I don't consider Rocky V a part of canon anymore, then least entertaining would be Rocky vs. Mason Dixon. I think it was a huge mistake to make it look like a real HBO fight. And in fact the best part of it was when they ditched the realism for a little bit. Most pivotal, in terms of his career (if you looked at Rocky as a real fighter) I think would be a tie between Rocky vs Apollo pt.I and Rocky vs. Clubber rematch. The fight that cemented his legacy as a fighter would be Rocky vs. Drago with an honorable mention to Rocky vs. Dixon.
Considering Drago was powerful enough to literally take Rocky's head off, you gotta go with the fight from Rocky IV. The most satisfying one though is still the original. Rocky goes the distance and gets the girl.
Rocky is one of the best movies of all time. Everything in that movie was sincere-talking to himself in the mirror, his initial apprehension about accepting a fight with Apollo Creed, the first time he and Adrian got together in the apartment- they are just so many things that were "right" about that film. Everything else was anti-climatic, to me. The first fight ruled. You make that movie nowadays, and I guarantee you that Rocky wins that fight. It was actually pretty daring that he doesn't win the fight, and is what makes it unique among many sports movies. Rocky II, III, and IV were good, but Rocky is a masterpiece.
rocky vs clubber rematch. The combination of having Apollo in rocky's corner plus Rocky with his new style and actually dodging some punches for a change was nice. Plus overcoming his fear and becoming more than a fake champion and revenging mickey's death. there was a lot to take in. A close 2nd would be Ivan Drago.
That was a tough one. For me it came down to Ivan Drago and Clubber Lang, the second fight. I went with Rocky-Clubber 2 because it meant a lot that he lost Mick and he came back to win the rematch. Rocky 1-4 were awesome, after that not so much.
I had to vote for the rematch vs. Clubber Lang. The story line itself is pretty realistic. Superstar athlete thinks he's untouchable, becomes cocky and enjoys the lifestyle a little too much. Something drastic happens like the beating he took that forces him reevaluate himself and to overcome his fear, work harder and regain that "eye of the tiger" hunger. The way he came back in that rematch and punked Clubber down was incredible. "COME ON CHAMP...HIT ME ME HARDER!!" "THE WHOLE WORLD'S WATCHING...KNOCK ME OUT!!!!" But to be honest, since the poll question is asking which is his "best fight" it's probably the fight that nobody is voting for: Mason Dixon. A washed up fighter in his 50's nearly beats the undefeated champion in his prime? Regardless of the loss he took, the fact that he was able to nearly beat a Mike Tyson equivalent was remarkable. Rocky IV is probably my least favorite movie next to Rocky V. Oh, so Rocky is going to fight this blatant steroid user ON Christmas day IN Russia for NO money?!?! Right. I also think Rocky IV tarnishes Apollo's legacy a bit too. Here's Rocky and Apollo, two fighters that were so neck-and-neck and good as each other, and Drago not only easily beats Apollo but fricken kills him then Rocky is able to beat Drago? Don't get me wrong, the actual fight itself in Rocky IV is incredible. I love the whole "he's cut!!!" and "he's like a piece of iron" and the "YAYSHEBLAH!!! YAYSHEBLAH!!!" but the point is everything else leading up to that fight, including Rocky's Cold War ending speech at the end, is completely bogus and unrealistic.
Perhaps it was the inspiration for the Ally Sheedy classic Short Circuit. "Nice software!" Clubber rematch, btw.
The best part is... though he may be down and out.... he eventually comes back and is righteous once again.
You know what else is unrealistic and bogus? The 75 billion clean power shots to the face that everyone in the Rocky movies take and never go down.
My vote was for Drago, simply because that was the first Rocky movie I watched when I was like 8 years old (it was one of those late night flicks that aired on ABC or something and I just happened to catch it, and love it. I started watching it right when the fight with Apollo started). I immediately watched the other ones and fell in love with em.. but no matter how cheesy or unrealistic Rocky IV, I loved everything about it: the montages, the whole US vs USSR tension, big roided freak. My second favorite is the Clubber Lang rematch. He was the perfect villain... "Hey, Woman. Hey, Woman! Listen here. Since your old man ain't got no heart, maybe you like to see a real man. I bet you stay up late every night dreamin' you had a real man, don't ya? I'll tell you what. Bring your pretty little self over to my apartment tonight, and I'll show you a real man." Whoever voted the fight against Tommy "The Machine" Gunn HAS to be out of their minds. The fight against Dixon was a good fight.. but his character was horrible. A rich, cocky, young black dude like a Floyd Mayweather or a 50-Cent type just wasn't original enough for me. He had no character and could not act... Clubber Lang is exponentially greater than Mason Dixon
which one was it (vs. Apollo) where they both fell at the same time? The rematch? If so that one sucked. I like theo original where he lost. That movie was epic!
Yep, that was Rocky II where they both fell at the same time and Rocky got up right before 10 and wins the title. I wouldn't say that one sucked, but I would say it was my least favorite out of all the Rocky's besides V.
I guess I'm old school on this, but his fight with Creed is what made Rocky who is today. a bum who was on the wrong side of 30 having ONE shot at the champ and taking him the distance. It set the tone and theme for Rocky ever since: underdog fight. v.s drago is #2 only because the cold war tense. that and the special effects/greater budget made the fight seem more crazier. I dunno man. Gotta respect the roots of the story, which is what part 5 and 6 were trying to back to. Rocky v. Creed ftw.
I'm going with the Clubber Lang rematch. Same reason everyone else has said. Think about what he had to overcome to win that fight. His manager died and he basically had to start all over again because of the realization that Micky had carried him. I get all pumped up when Rocky starts letting Clubber him him and saying "come on, you ain't so bad!! you ain't so bad!!!" That's the first we ever see Rocky talking trash, and it's a beautiful thing. Damn, I need to watch Rocky III again! EDIT: Almost forgot... Clubber: I'm gonna bust you up. Rocky: Go for it.
Rocky IV always irritated me. The goofy anti-soviet taint just kind of made the movie silly. I especially liked how rocky trains for that fight in a barn with nothing but whatever was lying around while drago uses ultra advanced equipment with a hoard of scientists following him aorund and taking notes on clipboards. It's total role-reversal from reality - and it's hilarious in unintentional irony.
