Not compared to finding a gorilla costume.

    You sure?

Party Boy prolly has one that can be rented.

Hell, you can get a Chewbacca costume at Target for 20 bucks, hair and all.

Pretty sure man. He is not wearing pants so strike that off of the needed list. The guy next to him is wearing a dress shirt and a tie which you could find pretty cheap if you needed a bigger one. I mean the guy is not fat, finding an XL dress shirt for dirt cheap is as close as the nearest walmart or sears.

Unless somebody can give me a logical explanation as to why the gorilla was wearing an Artest jersey, I will not believe this to be racist.

    Can't afford/Can't find/Too lazy to get a suit.

And the most obvious explanation of all, they're at a Rockets game.

To counterpoint, unless somebody can give me a logical explanation as to why the Presidents are there (in not only masks, but full costumes), and sitting next to the Gorilla, I will continue to have my doubts about the intent.

Maybe they are being racist to Ron Artest and calling him a gorilla?

I really don't think he was sitting next to them. Whoever was in the gorilla outfit had to have come by during the game for only a couple of minutes (when I didnt notice or was not at my seat) or maybe was seated before they got there. I was literally 2-3 rows behind them in the same section, about 10 seats away, and saw the other 2 walk in and sit down, there was not a 3rd costume at the beginning (at least I didnt see him walk in with them). Like i said earlier, they didnt even keep the masks on too long, one of them kept standing up and doing some random dance move everytime we scored or during a timeout, and he didnt have the mask on anymore.

Isn't there someone in the red rowdies that wears a gorilla costume sometime? I dont think its the first time ive seen that at the game, but I could be wrong.

edit- from the pictures it looks like they came in together, but I distinctly remember the 2 presidents and not the gorilla at all....so maybe this was at halftime when I was gone, not really sure.

    I just don't get it.

Who the hell goes to a Rockets game in costume as two former Presidents for no good reason?

It isn't Houston in particular but rather anyone from Texas, which includes Houston. After living in NYC for 9 years and in SF for almost 1 year, I can assure you that people have a distinct image in their head when you say you are from Texas. Generally, that image involves rednecks, bigots, cowboy hats, W. Bush, and oil. I tell people that is Dallas, not Houston. =P

Most people are surprised to learn that Houston is a very diverse city and the 4th largest overall in terms of population. When I moved to NJ in high school, everyone asked if I had a ranch back in Houston. I got fed up with such a silly question so I started saying yes and told people I rode a horse to school and shot my own dinner in the outback. I lost alot of popularity points once everyone found out a month later that I was just screwing with them.

Regional stereotypes aren't anything unique. I'm sure most folks in Texas have a very distinct image of New Yorkers and San Franciscans. However, it would be easy pickings for the media to connect the Texan bigot stereotype with the Gorilla photo from the Rockets game.

I don't know, but it's really hard to believe that this picture wasn't taken as a joke in poor taste. Whether it be racist or not, I just feel it is way to coincidental to ignore. It can't be three dudes just taking a picture.

I don't believe people from other parts of the country view Texans as bigots. I've met many people from all over the U.S., and almost everyone I've met has a positive impression of Texas and Texans. I think most people think Texans are friendly. I have had people ask me about the oil business, but that's to be expected, it is a big part of our economy. It sounds like you hang out with some very uneducated people.

He was talking about high school kids. For some reason I find that not too hard to believe.

    Somewhere in California:

"Same here man, no one thinks we think we're better than everyone else.

    Except Texans, they're all bigots."
