might be racism, might not. i would assume it's racist if the gorilla dude was also in a suit. but since he's in a rockets jersey, you really can't assume anything.
You guys aren't getting it. Note that we have masks of presidents Bush Sr. and Bill Clinton - thus, it's not racist as it is not meant to be Obama...it's supposed to be a chimp! Spoiler
what a weird choice to wear a gorilla costume, when the rest are going as presidents. It's like if my friends and I decided to go as the three amigos, but at the last minute I show up with a darth vader outfit and not a mariachi one.
I looked at the picture for about five minutes trying to see how it was racist. I just couldn't figure it out. I thought the Bush and Clinton masks were because Bush and Clinton had been in the news recently, working together on Haiti relief efforts. I thought the Gorilla wearing a Rockets uniform, must have been part of the entertainment that night at Toyota center. If the Gorilla had been wearing a suit like the other two, I probably could have figured it out.
For ages, Black people have often been portrayed as monkeys, apes, gorillas and other animals in order to suggest that they are inferior beings. President Obama is black. Hence, calling President Obama a gorilla is racist based on historical precedent. President Clinton, President W. Bush (debate all you want if it is jr or sr), Gorilla Who could the Gorilla possibly be portraying? This is not rocket science folks. White folks just don't understand. It is only a matter of time before some media outlet picks up these photos and Houstonians are once again stereotyped as racist bigots.
Since when has Houston been stereotyped as being a bunch of racist bigots? And since he was wearing a Ron Artest, jersey, it looked like a gorilla dressed as a Rocket's fan to me
A gorilla? Why jump to conclusions? Did you read the earlier post by JeopardE. Does anyone know if the gorilla was part of the entertainment that night, or did some fan wear a complete gorilla suit to the game?
I agree with this. The only question in my mind is "Did they premeditate this whole thing, and go to the game together with intent in a colossal display of bad upbringing and judgement, or did they run into this gorilla guy at the game (who is not in a suit, and is in a rockets uniform) and think it would be "funny" if they posed together? Not much different either way really, but the former would be much worse than the latter, though the rest of the nation will ignore/make up these details making it moot in the grand scheme of perception. Overall, whether deliberate or not, completely premeditated or not, this is a complete FAIL for Houston and the Rockets.
Why is he in an Artest uniform then? I think he would be more of a Battier fan. Oh dude I just totally pwned you so hard. wooooo@!
well the gorilla could be portraying artest. he was a gorilla on defense. he was also wearing an artest jersey and not a suit................jus sayin btw i think the suns gorilla is waaaay more racist. i mean just look at him! a gorilla with a basketball wearing a suns jacket! and look at this a black player with a basketball! absolutely disgusting!
