Can I see some of this basso ugliness? Or is it just urban legend? I find him more sarcastically humorous and never mean...
i started a thread on how i hated being hit on by gay men when they know i'm not gay and basso proceeded to tell me how i didn't want to let my natural lust takeover and i would be scared to suck their cocks. edit: post 48
Possibly his worse lapse... from 2007 I might add... is that all? You were more horrible to me just last week! I used to lose my head and bite back on occasion but I don't bother anymore; I just kind of chuckle and notice who really most often has zero tolerance.
just reread that post; i fail to see what's so offensive to you, unless of course, i, and the gay dudes, hit too close to home, and i'm not sure that would be objectionable.
I've had some issues with the way this forum has been moderated by Jeff. I am trying to get past the lingering resentment because in the end it's just not worth it. However, it's easier said than done and I was not in a good place when I foolishly resurrected this thread with my regrettable comments.
pgabriel, no offense, but (as usual after this introduction, something possibly offensive) for some reason, your posts indicate that you are at least gay-curious or something (not that there is anything wrong with that). I can't tell you why it seems that way to me, it just does.
"Up is down" is the most timid regrettable comment I've ever read. I haven't read through the thread but I'm pretty sure I remember protesting when this was first issued. I don't see anything to regret....
It's been my experience that the bulk (VAST majority) of the insults are coming from the left. To me, though, when I receive those insults, I know I've defeated them, and I gain great personal satisfaction Which explains why I'm always satisfied
Troll (Internet) In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory,[2] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[3] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.
That you believe that (and that giddyup thinks basso's trolling is the stuff of myth) indicates clearly that you believe: 1. Calling someone an idiot or a dick is an insult, but 2. Saying someone hates America, hates religious people, hates freedom, hates the troops, hates even special needs children and is giddy when Americans die in combat is not one. You idiot.
One man's Troll is another man's contributor; it is all a matter of perspective. The basso urban myth I referred to was a suggested personal level of ugliness. So far only one 5-year old example has been brought forth. Just more of your typical running roughshod over the assertions of those with whom you do not agree. Name-calling again. You lose; look at the title of the thread...
The title of the thread? Read Jeff's OP post. And I just brought back not a 5-year example but a 5-year long example -- one that might have avoided curse words but that was plainly a million times more insulting and ten million times more offensive. (I have a special needs brother by the way and basso knows it so being told that by disagreeing with Palin--in any way whatsoever--I was demonstrating a hatred of special needs children was especially distasteful even for him.) But I know you don't know how to concede when you are wrong and prefer to spend 50 pages exploring what the definition of "is" is so I'll leave you to it. Happy trails, bozo clown. Oh darn it! I did it again!
Batman, is this your personal hissy-fit haven? Get over your solipsism. I read Jeff's post; it makes an unsubstantiated claim. How are we supposed to take that? Of course, you love it.... I don't know what basso knows or doesn't know about your personal life; I didn't know you had a brother with special needs but there is far too much recklessness back here in general. I still see far more crap flung by the left than the right. I've caught it; my wife has caught it; even my dead mother has caught it before. Not sure how my children escaped. I've even tossed a little but that was usually a return of volley after my patience wore thin.... of insults not simple disagreement. We criticize the Israelis and Palestinians for not getting along or the various Muslim sects for not getting along and we can't even have a civilized discussion back here on a basketball fan site with little to nothing actually at stake.
I'm not buying your argument. A lot of us have been here enough to see enough... left, right, and in between. You can believe what Jeff is saying, but either way, try to follow it, and do your best for others to follow it as well. If you're wondering why no one is taking you seriously and hurting your feelings...your whole premise works by creating an accusation (jeff making an unsubstantiated claim), when the burden of proof is on you to convince us that a 2 year old post isn't true.
If one can defend Rush Limbaugh's vitriol, failing to recognize basso's transgressions is an understandable failing.
I believe what Jeff is saying but he makes a claim that basso is the worst offender and I don't see it that way. There are no illusions that those who are entrenched against my POV are going to change just because I make a single post about it.... but that doesn't make a whit of difference about whether or not I should post a reply or will post a reply. It's a marathon not a sprint. I'm not sure how I can "do (my) best for others to follow it as well" but I'll try! I'm not sure that my feelings are hurt; where do you get that idea? Show me the substantiation in Jeff's claim. It's not there. He just references a Batman-basso spat and chastises Batman's impulsiveness but then says this of basso: "MAKE NO MISTAKE, basso is a really REALLY insulting poster - one of the worst ever on this board. If it weren't for the fact that this forum is basically a free-for-all, he would have LONG been banned and probably never allowed back in." Really? I defy that conclusion. I'm not trying to claim that a 2-YO post is not true. My retort was "Is that all you have?" Pretty sure that everyone who participates in the D&D with any regularity and passion has over-stepped the boundaries of propriety a time or two. I admitted to doing so but said that I hoped and thought that those days were behind me.
Two things: 1. Mostly I defend his right to say it 2. Then I contend with your labeling, i.e. calling it "vitriol."
