On top of all that, the guy's slider is almost never thrown. I counted about 3-4 sliders in two innings, 23 pitches. The rest were fastballs. Any pitcher that throws fastballs 83% of the time is going to get knocked around as a starter. His slider really is pretty damn good, but he doesn't always seem to have good control of it, and he (or maybe Ausmus) doesn't seem to have much confidence in it. I don't think you screw with Lidge at this point. Maybe the Stros will make a trade, maybe they will call up Fernandez or Rosario...maybe they will just stand pat and hope they can weather the storm. But I really, really hope they don't risk Lidge's health on an attempt to make a starter out of him, one that I don't think would succeed even if the guy stays healthy.
Houston Astros players celebrate on the field six Astros pitchers combined to throw a no-hitter on a 8- shut out against the New York Yankees, Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at Yankee Stadium in New York. Astros starter Roy Oswalt combined for a no-hitter with relievers Pete Munro, Kirk Saarloos, Brad Lidge, Octavio Dotel and Wagner. (AP Photo/Ed Betz)
HISTORY WAS MADE. Amazing game. Funnest part was BILLY WAGNER closing it out! Too bad for Roy though... Hmm...hahahaha Yankees! The rest of my post can be found on someone's signature!!!!
You don't watch much baseball do you? Yankee Stadium my be the most storied ballpark in the history of the game. The Astros have only played the Yankees twice now in the regular season, ever. Before 1997 or so (can't remember when interleague play started), National League teams never played American league teams outside of the World Series or exhibition games.
Did y'all read where the Yankees had 6 bottles of champagne delivered to the Astros clubhouse and placed them in front of the 6 lockers of the pitchers? Classy move.
Cool bit of trivia....while the Astros were on the field celebrating, the Yankees organization sent someone into the Astros locker room to put a bottle of champagne in front of each of the 6 pitchers' lockers. Very very classy. That was the most fun I have had watching a non-playoff Astros game in years. Man those last two innings were tense. Glad I blew off seeing the Italian Job to stay home and watch baseball.
Leave it to Sportscenter to talk mostly about the Yankees demise and not about the accomplishment of the Astros. They showed more interviews with Yankees then they did with Astros after the game. I wouldn't want to risk Lidge's health either but we are going to need another starter if Oswalt goes on the DL for a good amount of time. We need Roy-O for the end of the season and for the playoffs so we can't rush him back this time and we have to give him at least 1 month off. I like Munro out of the bullpen in long relief but as a starter he has been gettin lit up this year. We could really lose a lot of ground to the Cubs and Cards if we have to go with this rotation for a good amount of time - Miller Redding Robertson Munro Johnson If not Lidge we need to bring another quality starter in.
Having Roy Oswalt on your fantasy team: Good Having Roy Oswalt begin the season with only 4 wins: Bad Having Roy Oswalt pitch a no hitter: Good Having Roy Oswalt only pitch 1 inning of a no hitter because of injury: Bad Having the no hitter come against the Yankees: Good Well, I guess I'm happy. Congrats Astros, get better Roy! /
That is just classic. Wow. Not trying to pick on you, SLA, but one would assume that a person that followed basketball close enough to post on a message board would know a little more about other sports by default.
