What part of it was a botched joke do you not understand? Even staunch Repubs have stated that it was a joke gone bad poking fun at Bush.
and I'm guessing this was written before it was clear that kerry was referring to bush and not the troops
I don't really agree that it is 'pretty obvious,' especially when one factors in the large amount of 'the military fools poor kids into enlisting' stuff being propagated predominantly from the same side of the political spectrum where Kerry resides. Further, I don't think it's unbelievable that someone in the military would react to the statement. Overall, I think it's interesting that everytime someone from the military criticizes someone like Kerry that letters from military personnel who hold a differing view are presented AND given 100% credibility. I think it is pretty well established that the majority of military personnel have similar views to the former anonymous letter rather than the latter....uh, letter (although if I'm wrong on that feel free to point it out). OTOH I will admit that re-reading the statement with your interpretation I could see that side of the story if I used your explanation to fill in the blanks (I didn't really read the other thread or any of the stories about this until now).
Seriously, lighten up on Giddyup. He's got enough on his mind. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=119981
We figured as much. (I feel sorry for giddy... ) What I don't understand is why bring Kerry up now? The majority of Democrats, I would hazard to say the vast majority of Democrats, have come to the conclusion that the man is as tactless as a loon, should never have been the '04 nominee, and has the distinction of losing to the only man he would have been an improvement on as President. If George W. Bush is the living embodiment of the Peter Principal, then John Kerry is right there looking over his shoulder. Nothing to see here, folks. Just further post-election GOP/ Bush lover meltdowns, in progress. Keep D&D Civilized!
NewYorker may or may not be an idiot. Kerry most assuredly is. Bush, however, is the idiot who sent all those fine men and women into Iraq to fight a war that didn't need to be fought, without a plan for what to do once the country was occupied, who ignored the top generals who called for more troops before and after the invasion, who told the transition team that, "The Iraqi army doesn't exist!" When they were sitting at home, with their weapons, waiting to be called back to their barracks so they could continue their job, get a paycheck, and feed their families. I would say that of all the possible idiots involved, Bush is head and shoulders above the rest in the idiot department. Keep D&D.
yep that was a bad example on my part. at least we agree that fox's bill o'reilly is not a credilble source and an idiot.. howbout these guys? are they all idiots too for taking context into consideration and not only looking at that 1 phrase line? http://www.brendan-nyhan.com/blog/2006/11/context_needed_.html
by your illogic, it makes sense for a former war hero to call people who serve in the military stupid? I guess if you believe that, you're a radical partisan (AKA mindless moron).
Yeah, in context I agree. The opinion that the military ranks are filled with the uneducated poor is held by quite a few people. You can find many of them on this board (do a search). So it is not out of the realm of possibility as you seem to believe.
