An insulting (especially to your own teammates) and classless point is never a good point, no matter how correct it is.
Not a saint, but compare what he said to what Shaq said. KG gave up a lot of money to help the bottom line (chance at a ring), a lot of NBA players egos would not let them do that, even if giving up that 10 million plus+ is insignificant as far as their lifestyle and financial security. So what if when their was more of a free market when KG got the biggest contract around? The bottom line is he is taking less money than was agreed to him so that his team can be better and he has got his team competiting for the NBA title--most elite sports stars won't renegitiate downward nor take less than their maximum in the prime of their career.
Doesn't Shaq have a publicist who could coach him on stuff like this? I mean, granted not everyone can be naturally diplomatic like Yao Ming but come on, pissing off players and fans is just bad business sense.
I don't think the LA franchise is gonna give Shaq an extension, i think Kobe is their #1 priority, that's why they held up on the Shaq and Phil Jackson negotiations.
I feel sorry for Shaq. He has a ton of money, but greed or pride are going to prevent him from doing the right thing. And the right thing is taking a smaller contract. Why? Because he is no longer capable of playing like a $30 million player for a whole season. He can bring it occasionally for the playoffs, but if Kobe leaves, I don't even know if a team of Shaq + $15 million worth of whatever will make the playoffs. That being said, Shaq has shown me too much of the real Shaq this time. I'm no longer a fan.
