Some interesting posts in this thread.

I would love it more than anything if the Rockets could get Yao Ming. I know that Marcus and Wilcox are highly regarded, but I'm just not sold on them becoming a dominant offensive player - one that a team would have their offense go through. Actually, if we can't get Ming, then I think we would need Stoudemire although many fans, including yours truly, would run out of patience in seeing Amare become a superstar player right away ala Kevin Garnett.

Therefore, if Ming is unavailable, I would want the Rockets to get Caron Butler. I don't care how many 3's we have...Butler is a freaking athlete..plain and simple & you don't pass up on those types.

Dude has better shooting touch outside than TMo or Kenny (but not as good as Eddie - but I still think that EG will wind up being a 4 regardless of what he thinks), is an explosive player to the basket - something we are definitely lacking from this postion, could play inside if needed, i.e. has the potential to be one of the best "post-up" 3's in the league, and I feel he would be a very good defender.

I really can't see the argument of passing on him because when you have a chance to get an athlete like a Caron Butler, you better have a damn good reason for passing on him. Saying that you are relying on Glen Rice to recover from his injury so that he can be the "starter" is NOT a good excuse/answer.

We cannot just sit hear and close our eyes and say what Chicago in going to do, Sane. That Gm is on a mission to let Chicago forget about MJ. JW will not help with that while Ming would be a better help for such a vaunted objective. The GM will not see the existing rookies as enough.

I think there is little doubt Butler is a better shooter than EG. Probably only Rice, Walt, Mobes and Stevie are better game shooters on the team, and Butler has the potential (if he isn't already) to be a better defender than any of them. Butler could have the offense game of Rice (could be a stretch because Rice 6 years was the best offensive SF in the game, but Butler does have similar inside-outside-mid range skills) and the defense game of Artest. I agree that would be hard to pass up. I just saw he was 23 though, that is somewhat disappointing as I figured he was 19 o 20. How is this guy a 23 year old and yet a soph?

Why don't we just trade the #15 pick to Minnesota for Marc Jackson. If this was already discussed, my apologies.

    desert scar,
I don't care if he's 23, hell I even rather he be older. We don't want another teenager on the team. Amare may be the exception, maybe. Also, you said in a previous reply that you wanted a "polished" player, but then complain Caron is 23, which would indicate he is more "polished" than most 19 and 20 year olds. Make up your mind.

On another note, our bench really sux. We need a better group of youngsters to give this team quality depth. I was really ashamed of our bench agaist Denver.

I have had a change of heart and I am open to trading KT. Why the change? 1. Team depth at the position; 2. High trade value; 3. KT is about to cost us big money; 4. Two prime draft choices. (The 3rd Q just ended and the Raptors are up by 9) My voodoo doll is out.

So what do we do? 1. With the #5, we take Woods. 2. We target Miami or Pheonix to give us their pick for KT and the #15 and if necessary for Miami, DL. If that is not enough add some more sweetners. With that pick we would then take Amare. I suspect that the Heat is like NJ of last year, needing some opportunities at get some bodies.

The team would then look like this:

    C......Cato.......Collier......Amare
    PF....MoT.........Tmo
    SF....EG...........Woods
    PG....Francis....Moochie...Brown
    OG....Mobley....Rice.........Torres

I would give consideration to having Willis come back to help with the development of EG and Amare. Alternatively, Williams could be our Bullard.
