He has his faults but the guys you think should replace him have even bigger weaknesses.

I responded to him in the other thread...

Hey, great, way to use one game and make conclusions! Never mind that his Roland Rating is by far the highest on the team. Or that the top 6 and 8 of the top 10, top 5 man units for the Rockets include Yao. Or that he was +8 against Denver (best on the team), +22 against Memphis (second best on the team), +8 against Phoenix (second best on the team), only -1 against Utah (best amongst Rockets starters that night...by far, everyone else was - double digits), or that NBA.com has his efficiency stat at +23.38, which pretty much puts him up there with all the other all-stars.

"We'll agree to disagree." I don't think I've heard a more eloquent answer to one's request for statistical or otherwise "hard" evidence.

I believe that the civilization will end by 2015. If you want supporting evidence, we'll have to agree to disagree.

You forgot to mention the Cavs game where he was dominant. Didn't see the haters come out of the woodwork after that game.

Except T-Mac has been in the league for over 10 years, While Yao hasn't.

Yao didn't blow a 3-1 lead in a series either. I am not saying T-Mac is a choker, but T-MAc ain't better than Yao anymore.

Instead of actually backing up your argument, you're calling me a Y-O-F? So anyone who sticks up for Yao in the face of baseless accusations isn't a Rockets fan?

What are you, a Tracy only fan?

you want me to use stats?
    what do you want?
yao as a liability on D is baseless?
all these open jumpers given up, fumble rebounds, silly fouls, failing to box outs.. etc
what i can't stand is how we're getting abused time after time whenver the opposing team goes pick and roll. ala boozer williams, gasol kobe
and then there's the big shooting center/fowards. bargnani, okur? agree?
i thought we were all watching the same rocket games.. i mean, how hard is it to see. i'm talking about defensive... offensively, yao's great for 3 quarters when the don't front him as hard, and that alone makes yao a valueable piece .. but defensively, he's not physically capable, unless we're playing the traditional centers. does that make sense?
but again, you don't need to agree with me. move on

This was touched upon by DD in another thread. Matchups are Yao's biggest weakness and strength. Boozer, Gasol (though Gasol hasn't been historically dominant against Yao), and Bargnani are horrible matchups for Yao. When we play them, Yao is a liability on defense, because of his inability to defend the elbow jumper. However, against teams WITHOUT a sweet-shooting big man, Yao is a heavy asset on the defensive end, and this was evident in the games against Cleveland, Boston, Phoenix, Denver, etc.

well im actually getting more support that I thought i would lol...

to the people saying one night...read my whole post. MOST of my stats are referencing the entire year against what most people would consider is the other top center in the league.

to the people saying he is only a liability against athletic guys who can shoot...pretty sure i acknowledged that against classic centers yao does fine, so list me off those centers...the problem is the number of people in this catagory is not nearly as many as the number in the other catagory...

i didn't say he was the weakest link on the team, just the weakest defensive link amonst the starters...my proof?? well my proof would be that at the end of games when we need stops we take him out...

yes his turnovers aren't standout awful but there are a lot of things he does to turn the ball over that don't count as a turn over

no i don't play basketball very much or very well but i watch a heck of a lot and am an intelligent person

and whoever said yao is at the top of our best 5 rotation in +/-...um well...DUH but then again the same thing could be said about Dampier for Dallas

i know we will never trade him because he is a cash cow i am hoping he asks to be traded

i say he will never get any better or more aggressive because he hasn't yet, aggression is basically against everything he has been taught. men that size, their bodies deteriorate very quickly once they hit a certain mile and yao is getting there quick.

i never actually said who i would replace him with so that argument isn't even relevant

you are so dumb thinking that by giving up Yao this team can compete with the best teams in this league.
