it is a little annoying that some dont try a little harder to create a good atmosphere. For example, there was a group of people (maybe 6 or 7) that were a couple of rows back but they were still on the floor. Not one of them had anything red or white on. It was a group of middle aged guys and it appeared as if they thought it was nature color night, b/c they all had on shades of tan, brown and green. Didnt they hand out red shirt?! are you so dense, stubborn or flat out boring that you wouldnt even put on the red t shirt? I hope they took some flack for that. Even if you show up without a red shirt...go buy one. Why even go to the games if you dont at least try to 'get into it'?
Yes, I am not sure why you have money to buy the ticket to the game and you could not afford a Rocksets jersey or T-shirt.
the crowd was great both games...it was the loudest i've heard it in a long time.....if you want everyone to wear red maybe the rockets should pitch in and buy EVERYONE a rockets red shirt..for some reason they only gave shirts to the peopel sitting in the lower level center court seats free t shirts..come on...we spend thouseands on tickets every year, can't they give away a few extra red tshirts to everyone!!!....thats how Miami was all white last year...the team has to help nonetheless, the crowd was awsome...
I'm not saying there's something inherently wrong with everyone who's not going to these games and/or being really loud at them. I'm just saying I would think with a city that large, and with a team this good, and with stars this marketable and enjoyable to watch, there should be enough people who care to easily fill out an arena in a playoff game. Everyone's gotta work in their little "UR OPINYUN DUZN'T COUNT CUZ U DONT GO 2 DA GAMEZ" shot.
First of all, box office tickets were sold out... you could still get tix from vendors (stubhub, etc.), but there were few select individual seats in various locations. Being at the game itself, it wasn't as if banks of empty seats were empty... I saw maybe 3-4 max in one row, and the rest were all singles. Sure, people decide not to sit in their seats for the entire game... and just lounge it. That's their fault... their fault they wasted so much money for season tix when they could have just watched it at any upscale bar/tv for free. But to criticize an entire city/fan base for a few snobby season ticket holders who don't sit in their seats is pretty lame. I don't care if you don't actually attend the game, but you don't need to come here and criticize people loyal enough to follow the Rockets thru this board... these people either ARE attending the games in full force, or wish they could at any cost.
I believe that when Les Alexander messed with the uniforms it messed with the pyschological loyalty of the Rocket fans. You know the Lakers, Bulls, Celtics, teams with tradition by their uniforms and colors. The Rockets were on that track with the beautiful Red uniforms. but then les messed it up with the pajamas and now trying to get back some respect with the new unis. Also, originals staying with the team would be nice. Calvin, Rudy.. Red Auerbach was a Celtic to the very end.
Yeah. It's always been loud in Dallas. All those years they were lucky to win 20 games you could still barely hear the commentators whenever we played there. Same in San Antonio. And if you can't tell, I am being completely sarcastic. Nobody gave a **** about the Mavs in Dallas until Cuban took over and started spending big bucks. Nobody gave a damn about the Spurs in the period between the departure of Gervin and the arrival of David Robinson. Now the three teams you mentioned are serious contenders for the title and on top of that, San Antonio doesn't even have another pro sports team. Does Phoenix? I'm not sure. I only follow basketball. I know Dallas has the Cowboys and the Rangers. But my point is this - if the Rockets had won 50* games for the last 3-5 years like those other teams, people in Houston would care more. Call that fair weather if you like. It doesn't bother me. Obviously I'm not one of those people.
And this is where people get the wrong idea... although to be fair to you, you probably didn't see my original post. I specifically pointed out that I know this doesn't apply to many of the people here, and that I know the team has some of the best and most loyal fans in the nation; I was expressing general disappointment in the city's support as a whole if what I heard about empty seats was true.
I find this whole thread somewhat humorous. Across this board in various places, folks are split on the nature of the Houston crowd. I personally drove down from Dallas for Game 1, and was in Section 427. And my obvious craziness and passion for my Rockets drove the fans around me nuts. I was told to sit down, stop screaming, the lady next to me had her hands over her years.. and honestly, it was the worst section I have ever sat in. HOWEVER, two sections over, it was a whole different ballgame... everyone was on their feet, red and rowdy.. so I think it depends on where you are in the arena -- that makes your experience. I thought overall the atmosphere was great, especially before the game. Did I mention that I am addicted to this board. It really is the best. I don't post alot, but I read it relgiously all day long.
I feel sorry for die hard Rox fans who sit alone amongst a sea of polite/indifferent fans, I could not do that...
It was hard.. you have no idea how big of a fan I am, and it sucked being told to sit down and shutup!
This apparently has to be said every time this thread is posted. The expensive seats, a lot of them are bought for business. You give those tickets to clients or you happen to have a suite where you are entertaining those clients, and therefore can't sit in your normal seats. I think the fans are pretty darn good. I am fortunate enough to get tickets down near the bench sometimes. We stand up and yell at times, but there are times for it. Otherwise, we sit down b/c we don't want to obstruct people's views behind us. It's just common courtesy. It doesn't make you any less of a fan if you are jsut considerate to your fellow fans enjoyment of the game as well. There's always a middle-ground.
Okay now i realize i shouldn't be talking if i didn't even go to the game. Ill check it out game 5 when i go.
Whoever told you that is just plain rude. It's one thing to ask someone to sit down so you can see the game, but it's another thing to tell you to shutup. That's a shame.
Here is where I have a complain about our fans..... I was at Game 2 last night, great volume, awesome crowd!!! all I want to ask is, Why are people not wearing red shirts???? now granted, most of them were because all the people on the first floor got FREE RED T-SHIRTS courtesy of STATE FARM. Upstairs was completely packed with red shirts. I saw soo many stupid, no passion people in the game holding the free red shirt they got rather than putting it on. uh... hello idiots.... there is a reason the shirts are all XL... so even if you are a SMALL you can still put it on just for the game!!!! I saw ppl with suits on in the game and holding the red t-shirt..... either be a rockets fan, take out your coat and put that t-shirt on OR give it to someone else who can. I really wish we got rid of these high maintanence, wanna be rocket fans, who have no where else to go but to buy front row tickets and talk about business rather than cheering for the rockets..... trust me, I have seen many of them. Please rocket fans...... WEAR YOUR RED T-SHIRTS.... ANYTHING RED, ANYTHING!!! to the true rocket fans, dont need to say more, they are great!!!! After reading this, if you think you match the description above, please see me before the next home game or at halftime outisde section 101 and I will bring some red t-shirts for you sorry rich dumb ppl and if you dont know how to put it on, ill help you, TRUST ME.... GOD BLESS THE ROCKETS!!!
Again, doesn't it cross your mind that a lot of those seats are bought for business reasons? And hello...you have a suit on at the game, you want to throw a tshirt on? I had my shirt on, but I thought no less of anyone who didn't. Doesn't make them less of a fan. Also, they could very well be there b/c they received tickets for being someone's client. I guess you are just ranting to rant.
I gotta agree with you. I mean there is no way the organization can force someone to wear Red. Game 2 they even gave those lower bowl shirts and still there was people who didn't participate. That being said I was at game 1 and it was the loudest the stadiums ever been in my experiance
game 5? pshhhhh!! how about game 3 of the 2nd round, because it's possible to break out the brooms (or game 1 if GS wins)
