Given the furor over the concerns about the embassy closings throughout the Middle East, I thought that it was something worth discussing regarding security. Regardless of what one thinks about certain security moves, the fact is that there have been no large-scale foreign terror attacks on American soil since 9/11. Meanwhile, we know that we have foiled several large-scale plots, not to mention that there are certainly others that are classified.

So, D&D, what is the reason for this phenomenon?

on American soil, no. But did you miss Ambassador Stevens' body getting drug around the streets by the terrorists?

    WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE

a truly shameful episode....or as Obama calls it, a "phony scandal"

Does the Fort Hood shooting not count as 'large-scale'? I guess not since it was one man.

Seems like asking what the distinction is between an attacker being in the keep or outside the walls.

I guess two bombs at the Boston Marathon is not large-scale enough?

I'm assuming the attackers weren't foreign enough to qualify.

AQ is fractured and cash strapped. Most attacks arent being coordinated by AQ central (like 9/11) but rather by offshoots in yemen and Somalia. Im sure you've heard the adage of the dragon being cut into snakes? Well the snakes just got cut into more. AQ lacks centealixed leadership and the period fron 9/11 to about 2007 terrorism was the govt's top priority, and security measures were stepped up. Hence, theres few major attacks on us soil, as its harder and harder to commit them, and AQ is not as organized or well funded.

However, with all these offshoots and franchises, it also becomes more likely that islamist terrorism sticks around. Wr can't round up every branch all around the world, there's too many.

Tl;DR Expect virtually no more large scale, 9/11 attacks, but get used to more minor isolated ones carried out by lobe wolfs and copycats in the US. Countries with weaker govts and stronger AQ factions (like Somalia, Afghanistan, and Yemen) will still bw plagued with vigfer attacks and violence may spread into their immediate neighbors (as is the case ub Kenya). American and Israeli embassies and businesses will be targets for years to come. But here we are are relatively safe

Congrats. You know it's a true turd of a thread when it manages to distinguish itself from the rest of the turd-like threads in D&D.

The scandal wasn't the attack. Nice spin! I guess you can slander Obama or you can pretend he called the deaths a scandal to make yourself happier. Pretty sick person IMO.

Homer: Not a bear in sight. The Bear Patrol must be working like a charm.
    Lisa: That's spacious reasoning, Dad.
    Homer: Thank you, dear.
Lisa: By your logic I could claim that this rock keeps tigers away.
Homer: Oh, how does it work?
    Lisa: It doesn't work.
    Homer: Uh-huh.
Lisa: It's just a stupid rock.
    Homer: Uh-huh.
Lisa: But I don't see any tigers around, do you?
[Homer thinks of this, then pulls out some money]
Homer: Lisa, I want to buy your rock.

    And me.

Besides which, there is the question of 'at what cost?' We've spent billions of dollars on that rock, plus lives, plus foregone rights, foregone allies and foregone opportunities, so I hope it really is keeping tigers away.

Cause the threat is nothing but a bunch of bull**** smoke and mirrors to either get our attention off the scandal of the week or to justify nsa massive snooping on everyone on the planet.

So, in short, the conclusion by most people is that there would have been no more terrorist attacks on American soil had we done nothing. Okay.
