1-2 in that scenario and they're out, 2-1 and its a 4-way tie and I think it comes down to head-to-head, 3-0 and they're in and the other three fight for WC #2
Oh my lord that's beautiful. How would the tiebreakers work (for home field) and where would the games be played, and who would play who?
https://www.mlb.com/amp/news/american-league-wild-card-tiebreakers-explained.html This really needs to happen!
Looking at the upcoming schedule: Jays host Baltimore, this should be a cakewalk series. If they can't sweep here, they don't deserve a wild card spot. Sox travel to DC, another walkover series. Then again, thats what everyone said about their series against Baltimore. Boston's on the precipice of a total collapse of a season where they lead the division into late July. The Yanks host the Rays, who only have the 100 win mark to play for, which requires them to go 2-1. I think they'll play NYY hard, Tampa's never reached 100 wins in franchise history. Finally, the aforementioned Los Angles California Angels of Anaheim travel to Seattle. I expect this to be a total walkover, in that either the Angels do exactly what I expect them to do an roll over and die, or the Mariners deliver a massive dick punch to their fans and blow it. I'd say there's a 5% chance a 4-way tie comes from this.
As potential playoff opponents the Yankees scare me. Playing in a sold.out Yankee stadium will be tough enough. Throw in Cole, healthy kluber, and those two could easily shut us down. Severino has looked good and the Yankees seem to be red hot again.
Worst case scenario would be the Astros losing to the Mariners in the ALCS with Toro hitting the series winning homer off of Graveman. I can't even imagine the meltdown in that scenario on this board.
Sometimes the bad teams are hard to beat at this time because they want to play spoilers. They have nothing to play for but the other team does. Didn't Boston just lose 2 to the Orioles? And when the Blue Jays were on that hot streak, I think they lost 2 to the Orioles as well.
yeah they lost to balt twice in that span 15/16 games where they were hot, but they also beat them 5/7 times in that same span. if tor can't get it done vs one of the worst teams in baseball, it just isn't meant to be
We've done it before and we'll do it again. They don't scare me at all. Honestly, none of the AL teams scare me. They are all certainly capable of beating us but none of them are absolute favorites over us.
Let them scare TB in the ALDS, assuming they win the wildcard game. If they survive that, then I will worry about them.
