Current AL Wildcard standings: Boston Red Sox (80-62)..........+0.5 New York Yankees (78-61)........0 Toronto Blue Jays (76-62)........-1.5 Seattle Mariners (76-64)..........-2.5 Oakland Athletics (75-64)........-3
Yankees on a nice 5 game losing streak while the Blue Jays have won 7 in a row. Looks like TB will end up with the #1 seed. Tropicana Field has been a house of horrors for the Astros. I know the Astros won 2 of 3 this season but that's before the Rays started playing this level of great baseball. So, of those teams, who has the best chance of knocking out the Rays in the Divisional round?
Think it will be Red Sox and Yankees, but hoping for Red Sox and Blue Jays from an entertainment standpoint.
I suppose my dream scenario would be for the Blue Jays to get a wildcard, beat their opponent. Then face and beat TB so it could be a Astros / Blue Jays ALCS. Of course, our guys need to get it done, probably vs the White Sox.
My prediction the rest of the season: Yankees go 15-8 end up 93-69 Red Sox go 11-9 end up 91-71 Blue Jays go 12-12 end up 88-74 Mariners go 12-12 end up 88-74 A's go 14-9 end up 89-73 Blue Jays and Yankees have toughest remaining schedule. I don't want the Yankees to make it but I think they rise up. Blue Jays 6 more games against TB and 3 against NY Yankees end with 3 games against each Boston, Toronto, TB - could be ugly Red Sox schedule is fairly easy Mariners playing with house money at this point A's have a pretty rough stretch the final 10 games against Seattle and Houston. 5-5 would be a plus in that stretch but not enough to make a final push
Its crazy that it seems like the Jays only go on these hot streaks with Georgey boy in the lineup. I know hes been out the last two game but when he goes to the IL, the Jays just seem to be rutterless.
For the Astros I don't think it matters because the Rays are going to beat any of them. However, the A's missing the playoffs and the Yankees losing the wild card game would be amazing. So I will take Boston and the the Yankees.
Surprised the experts at baseball twitter haven't suggested something "fishy" going on... after all, Springer was a high utilizer of the "system" back in 2017...
With the A's & Blue Jays winning and the Yankees losing, the 2nd wildcard tightened up even more. Sox +1 Yanks 0 Jays -0.5 M's -2 A's -2 With 20-23 games left for these teams, 3 games separate the field. What a finish this is shaping up to be!
The implementation of the 2nd wild card team and the single elimination, winner take all game- is one of the best things MLB has done in the past decade as far as drawing more interest. It keeps teams and fans engaged, inspires more hope, and provides more incentive for teams to be competitive past the trade deadline. I thoroughly enjoy watching the standings and am really enjoying the Yankees implosion as of late. I chose a Boston/ Toronto wild card game. Toronto is really heating up
