Who is that kid?????? http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/local/orl-magiccon1305dec13,0,2299604.column?track=rss Published December 13, 2005 20-Second Time-Out: Catching up with Clifford Ray Ray was an assistant coach with the Magic last season, mostly working with then-rookie Dwight Howard. For years, the former NBA center has been a personal coach and guru to big men. He was not retained when the Magic hired Brian Hill as head coach. He still lives in Orlando. Magic Confidential: What is the guru doing now? Ray: I'm taking care of my foot, being a convalescent, mostly. (Ray's foot became infected last season.) I'm negotiating with people in China to work with a kid they say is better than Yao Ming. MC: Do you talk with Dwight much? Ray: Oh, yeah. I leave him messages, offering encouragement. . . . Pushing him to go into deeper water. MC: What have you seen so far with him? Ray: Dwight's doing great. When he learns the game, he can do the kinds of things that Tim Duncan, KG and Shaq do. MC: What does he need to work on? Ray: I wanted to get him to make a little turn-around jumper in the lane and become a better shooter. His free-throw shooting needs work, but my, he can gobble up rebounds. He reminds me of a young Ben Wallace. ================================================================ http://www.shanghaiist.com/archives/2005/12/09/the_latest_next.php Gothamist December 09, 2005 The latest ‘next Yao Ming’ is 6-foot-9 … and 13 years old China may have found the oft-discussed “next Yao Ming.” Of course he is only 13 years old, so we’ll have to wait a while to find out. But according to the Wenhui Daily, Tian Yuchen is already 205 cm tall — that’s almost 6-foot-9. When Yao Ming was 13, he was “only” 197 cm. Tian is from Changchun in Jilin province and he’s already a member of the Shanghai Sharks youth team, the same place Yao got his start. The paper said Tian is considered the “secret weapon” for the Sharks’ much-needed CBA turnaround (they are currently 3-5 and dead last in the CBA South Division standings). Tian is actually being trained to play as a guard and he’s already signed an endorsement deal with athletic apparel brand Li Ning.
will that be Yi Jianlian or Tian Yuchen? ===================================================== December 09, 2005 The latest ‘next Yao Ming’ is 6-foot-9 … and 13 years old China may have found the oft-discussed “next Yao Ming.” Of course he is only 13 years old, so we’ll have to wait a while to find out. Well, if Clifford Ray is going to do it in USA, then probably it could be these 2 kids currently in United States. The left is Wu ke , 208cm around, born in 1990, from Shandong team. The right is Ji Xiang, 208cm , born in 1989 , from Shanghai team. Meanwhile, Tian Yuchen (2.05M Born 1991/14 years old) was back into China already. Tian Yuchen and Ji Xiang were sent to attend the USBA Pro Advantage Big Man Camp in July this summer at the US Basketball Academy in Eugene, Oregon. Ji Xiang was so good that he had been re-invited to return to USBA together with Wu Ke to recieve a specialized 6-month training.
Both Ji Xiang and Wu Ke at 2.08M will be equivalent to 6ft 10. Meanwhile, Tian Yuchen is at 2.05M, i.e. 6ft 9.
If Tian YuChen kid could be brought to the States and train from 13years old, he will definitely will be the best Chinese export to ever play in NBA!!!
Tian Yuchen is still very raw and green. He is predicted to grow to 2.14M (7ft). He is currently on Shanghai Sharks Youth Team, being trained as a point guard, so as to improve his ball handling/passing skills and court vision. I tell ya. China would get a lot more players into the NBA if they did strength conditioning, endurance training and bulked up their players better.
NOt quite clear who is who. Can someone point out for sure who is Tian? All Chinese websites say the kid on right, holding the LIning ball is him.
damn these kids sure are skinny. like some one pointed out, they need some strength and enduro trainning, they are gona be a lot of chinese centers and forwards at this rate. (whats in the waters over there?)
Have you read my post CAREFULLY ?? The one in the red T is Tian. The one with the Li Ning ball is Ji Xiang.
There are a couple of up-and-coming point/shooting guards. More note-worthy are: Chen Jianghua (17yr old/6ft 3) currently in China, playing for the Youth Team for the champion team Guangdong Hongyuan. Liu Xiaoyu (16 yr old/6ft 4) joining Sydney Kings in NBL of Australia in 2006 Sun Yue (20 yr old/6ft 9) currently in Beijing Aoshen Olympians, playing in ABA in USA. Yang Ming (18 yr old/6ft 4) currently in the senior team of Liaoning playing in CBA. Han Shuo (16 yr old/6ft 5) currently in the senior team of Jiangsu playing in CBA
