Guys, we have so little time to get our starters gelling again before the games actually count. Why give the ball to the unproven rookie right away? Let him get used to how the team plays, get a feel for running the court with veteran players. Let him settle into this new offense during practice. Let him prove himself during those 6 minute oppertunities. Don't camp on the three point line waiting for our top three guys not to be looking for each other to create. Let the rookie move around, grab some boards and hustle for the chances he will be given. Francis is the team leader. He gave out 10 assist grabbed 5 boards and scored 30 points. You can't ask for any more than that. It's amazing that he only took 20 shots to do it. I'll take 82 more games like that.
i feel the same vibe from Yetti. cares more about Yao than he does the Rocks. if yao got drafted by another team would Yetti be a rox fan? sounds like a good question for a poll, if it hasn't already been done. (has it?)
I noticed that Tito can draw a lot of attention when he drives to the lane. He has nice handles driving into the lane and knowing when and where to pass the ball out. Steve was awesome, he needs more props in the league.
Maybe Rudy wanted a win to boost the confidence level. But I didn't really care about winning a preseason game. I'd rather see more actions from the new guys. I'd rather see them struggle (but try hard) to execute the new team offense than see them beat up a Grizzlies team with some key players missing. I think Francis played well. Taking 22 shots wasn't his fault. But why in the world was he on the floor for so long? Why didn't Mickeal and Goodrich play?
I enjoyed the style of play from the Rockets. I saw passing and movement. Everyone was involved. It was great!! I hope they will continue to execute this "five-man" offense and improve every game. Their execution looked pretty good already for the first preseason game. I would also have to say that Stevie, Cat, KT and Eddie looked solid and in mid-season form. How about those shots from TMo. It was great!! I was disappointed that Boki did not play much. I think he touched the ball once in offense. I keep hearing how good he is and I wanted to see his shot in a game situation. I figured Rudy wanted his key guys to get in some game minutes to get ready for the season. Plus, Boki did have that surgery for the sports hernia. Maybe, Rudy is just bring him along slowly. Clutch did mention in his excellent camp reports that he saw Boki's face showing pain while doing stretch exercises. In any case, I expect Boki will get more playing time as the preseason rolls along.
moomoo:- I've been with the Rox for over 20yrs as a fan! I am very happy that we have a great Center joining our Team! We have been in need of a great functional Center for at least three years. During the history of the Rox they have mostly been a club with a great big man, their game has worked very well with a big man STAR. ALSO YOU SHOULD READ ALL MY POSTS IN THIS THREAD THEN YOU MIGHT UNDERSTAND WHERE I AM COMING FROM!
I didn't see the game, but just kept up with it in the chatroom. And I was surprised by the distribution of minutes, only concerned about SF and Cat getting injured. So I'm just throwing this out there for the heck of it. I listened to the pre-game on the Memphis station over the net and the announcers commented that they were surprised reps. from the Heat, Nets and Nuggets were in attendance. and they were speculating West might have a deal in the works. It could be the Rockets are that were shopping someone too. I would have liked Nachbar to get a few more minutes and take a couple of shots, but last night was big for T-Mo and I can see why Steve didn't want to see Nachbar just stand there and drain a few in 5 or 6 minutes. And apparently after last week Steve knows Nachbar could do that. That would have been the story in the Chonicle, because Nachbar's a number #1 pick and such an unknown commodity. The Maryland alums would not have been happy, and it wouldn't have been fair to T-Mo either. So no big deal either way.
There's a reason they call Steve the Franchise. He's the best and the #1 option. Steve wasn't ignoring Nachbar, it was his first game in which he played only 6 minutes. How could anyone be hatin on the best PG in the leage, please! MVP MVP MVP!
I think we are missing the point here. Steve is just magnificant in that game, no question about it. That only proves our number 1 option though. Keep in mind of the long 82-game season, playoff games and evetually the championship we all want. We need to kick in all possible cylinders with different position at different nights. That would be the primary function of a PG. Steve's assists number is more applausible to me in that regard. When was ever the last championship team with their PG being the leading score ??? Never !!!
isaih thomas with the pistons? it might have been joe dumars but either way it was close. hopefully the mobley/francis combination will be similar.
We are different to the Pistons, their big men were only ROLE PLAYERS! We expect to have a mixed Guard/Center dominent team! This senario calls upon Steve Francis to be the best Point Guard that he can be ( average 10 assists/game)..... ............ MVP Francis....Defensive player of the year Yao Ming!
I think the Rockets would be happy if Yao can hold his own defensively until he develops some bulk within the next few years. Once he matures and learns the NBA and all the great big men, he might have a shot at being a defensive monster. This year might be too soon.
Magic only led them in scoring one year and that was in 87-88 I believe. Worthy and Jabbar were usually their leading scorers.
Just a final comment on this subject! So many posters have the feeling that I hate the Franchise, Its untrue! I am crazy about all of our players more this year that all previous 21 seasons. I like their character and abilities, I just want them to be great and play Team Basketball.I believe our team will be one of THE great teams in the near future and I support them all the way.Yetti
