Stupid risk? This is why you hide behind your computer and play war games all day while the real men are out risking their lives. There are many occupations that require "stupid" risks. When your house is ablaze or you get mugged in gang territory, don't expect anyone to come out to rescue you. We don't want anyone to get hurt when the odds are against them, now do we?
Just to nit pick but wouldn't the other poster be asking for more people to help and risk instead of sending non one? P.S. 20 shots no misses... I say the dude is hacking and needs a perma ban
BHD was about 19 soldiers killed and 2 SF MOH guys being dragged around naked with their dead bodies being spat upon.
The military very often gives open access to their uniforms, sets, machinery, vehicles, etc to hollywood because of the movies that are produced which are good for their public image and marketing/recruitment.
Are you from the 50s? Your insecurity about "manhood" is clouding your judgment. If you know it's a nest of insurgents, and you send a numerically inferior force, then wow, holy s***, there's a potential for disaster. We could easily be reading headlines about "Disaster in Afghanistan". Now I realize the US Army may have a lack of personnel since some idiot may have committed too many troops to an unnecessary war in Iraq, but STILL, this was ,to my somewhat uninformed opinion, dumb. Unlike a fire or mugging, this was a planned situation, and the plan nearly lead to total disaster, if it wasn't for an asskicking worthy of a movie. And if you can't see through that, if your love for the troops can't see through the fact that they were put through an unnecessary amount of danger, if your love for being a "real man" blinds you to the fact that risk in wartime is the stupidest risk there is, well, hats off to you and your manhood. .
Where does your intel come from regarding the facts that were present when this decision was made to proceed?
Yeah and it was as anti-american as it gets! The somalis were the obvious protagonists in the movie....lol. Are you as stupid as basso is pretending to be for the sake of his BBS stock character, and really believe that there have been zero positive portrayals ("not including WWII") of American soldiers in movies and television over the last three decades? Are you honestly and truly that misguided of a soul? Because if so I offer you my pity and wish you a full and happy life, knowing that when the zombie apocalypse comes, your brain will offer little sustenance to our would-be tormentors.
Home of the Brave The Marine Jarhead Generation Kill Soldiers portrayed positively in Iron man. That's just a partial list. But you get the idea.
Northside, do you know any Marines? If so, you'd know that they'd take a 10:1 ratio any day of the week. Marines are trained to kill, and they do it well. If you gave a Marine the choice to go into battle outnumbered or to wait for backup they'll choose battle every time. I don't mean this in a bad way, but those mofos want to kill something. And they usually do...
Afghanistan will be like Vietnam, hundreds of good days for the marines till we can't take it any more and get out and stop the occupation. This time it might partly be because we just can't financially afford neo-con fantasies of world domaination anymore.
Yes private entertainment companies get to pick what storylines they like to depict. Are you suggesting otherwise?
wow you are really crazy! I only clarified the differences between what Basso described and the events in the battle of mogadishu. Not anti-american but certainly anti-war. If you listen to the directors comments on the DVD you will find the somalis were supposed to be shown as real people also. They showed both sides. I dunno if there has even been a "positive portrayal" by whatever subjective terms you want to use, I think the guys in BHD were shown as thoughtful and real people. To answer Basso's question I doubt they would ever make a movie out of it for an American audience because it would be to boring.
'no man's land', that was a good film! Ohhhh, what about owen wilson, in behind enemy lines, when he made friends with a youngguerrillero who loved ice cube? that was entertaining!
