Not exactly a ghost story, but close enough.

We had gone to India to visit family, and while there my dad decided that he would show us where he started working as a field engineer and all the 'awesome' places he had seen in India. We left around noon to the smaller villages on the eastern side of Hyderabad and he wanted the real experience so he hired a horse buggy for the trip. The buggy is not what you see in like the old movies ... umm, it has like a rough bench in the front for the driver to sit on and then just a lil box on the back with one side open to get in from.

So its dad, me, bro and the driver. We went and saw all the places, and had lunch/dinner in the small villages with the locals and around 10ish started back for home. I sat with the driver and my dad and bro sat in the back, with their backs towards us. So we're talking and then we hit a stretch where there is just a dirt road in between villages. It's dark and a woman is standing there waiting for a ride somewhere. The driver stops to pick her up and my brother moves upto the bench, and I moved back with my dad, but we faced the driver so not to intrude on the woman.

We started again and the buggy just started getting soooo damn heavy. You could literally feel it tilt in the direction of the woman. She keeps staring at me, and then she kinda tries to touch my face, but its a new place, its dark so I recoiled and grabbed my dad. She chuckles in a hoarse voice, but that ends. So we're passing through a graveyard and she says "I'll get off here" which at this point completely spooks me out.

It's like 11 PM, middle of nowhere, a graveyard and this lady wants to get off here. Anyways, so she gets off, and as soon as she does, the horse goes nuts ... but the buggy is not heavy anymore. As she gets off, and starts walking, all of us turn to see her go, and her feet were on backwards.

I would have screamed so loud ... but I was soo damn scared at the sight. We looked back after like a minute, and there was nobody around. The place had no trees or anything ...

And it being 12:16 right now, I don't think I'll get any sleep tonight ... have to sleep alone  :(

At night when I'm in the kitchen I can sense something in there to. And when I look at the door way of the kitchen out the corner of my eye I can see what looks like people walking back and forth past the door way and even walking into the kitchen, but when I turn towards the doorway they're gone, but I can still sense them. Weird. I personally think it's a small crack in time and I'm looking through to the other side. That's the only way I can explain it because it happens everynight. Weird.

I've also had what felt like out-of-body experience. I would wake up and not be able to move. My eyes would be closed, and it would be like my body is asleep but my mind is awake, and I would almost feel like I'm hovering in the air. Then I would feel a sucking sound and it would feel like I was going down into my body, then I would wake up and remember everything that happened then! It happens every so often. I remember the first time it happened to me I was young and I was yelling for my mother nothing was coming out of my mouth. It was like I was screaming but my mouth wasn't moving and nothing was coming out. It's a weird sensation.

I hate that Rocks; I see people out of the corner of my eye all the time, and when I turn around, no one. I don't know what it is, but it annoys the hell out of me.

    I have some:

This one is my Dad's story. He grew up in West Texas and during the summers he'd work on his Grandpa's ranch with his uncle.

His ranch was near a main cattle drive route that ranchers and farmers would use to bring their cattle to Ft. Worth for rail, even though they were pretty far Southwest of Ft. Worth.

My Dad, his Uncle and Grandpa were working on the ranch one day fixing a fence when they decided to wait until night fall and make a fire and look at the stars. The ranch hadn't been a working ranch in 15 years, but there were still cattle from other ranches that would free roam here and there and sometimes would get on my Great-Grandad's ranch.

My Dad was in high school at the time in El Paso, and enjoyed his summers at the ranch. There is nothing like a West Texas night sky without a town for miles.

So they are sitting there BSing around and talking when they hear a rumble from far off.

My Grandpa figures someone is driving some cattle or they've stampeded from some other ranch, so he suggests they sit in the back of the truck if it get's closer.

    It did.

They could hear the sound get closer and closer...but couldn't see anything. My Grandpa figures that they're driving through this pretty wide gulch that's about 75 yards away from them, that's why they can't see them.

The sound keeps getting closer and closer and louder and louder.

Pretty soon they hear cows mooing and snorting, can smell them, can feel the ground vibrate through the truck (they're in the back) and it keeps getting louder and louder.

All of a sudden they're surrounded by stampeding cattle...hundreds of head, all around them...except for one problem...there's not a cow anywhere to be seen.

The next thing they know is that the stampede is past them and they can hear the cattle moving away, and after a few minutes, nothing.

My Dad said that's the scariest night of his life...Great Grandpa finds out later from his sister that she's heard stories of a herd of cattle killing themselves over the side of that gulch I mentioned, during a stampede, about 40 years before, during a thunder storm. Just ran off the side in the darkness.

    Apparently ghost cows exist.

Another weird thing is that Uncle I mentioned...he married a woman who had a twin sister. When she was old and died one night from a heart attack, he calls his brother and sister in law to tell them that she's died....the twin sister had died too, about 2 minutes after the first, in her sleep.

Man those are some crazy stories SuperMac. There are to many stories about twins for there not to be some truth to them. And I'm surprised we don't hear more stories of animal ghosts.

I've heard it mentioned numerous times that ghost are visible through the corner of your eyes for whatever reason. It's strange because it's like you see someone and I do the same thing, I turn around and there's nobody there. But you can see them as plain as day out of the corner of your eye. Crazy.

Do Ghosts ever kill people? I mean, they're kind of freaky and all, but if they can't touch you, so what? Nah nah nah, come and get me. Mostly what I hear are just unpleasant visions.

For something really freaky, you might try the classic paranoid fantasy captured in the lovecraft novels. There are spirits around us all the time, but usually, you can't see them and They can't see you. However, by chance or misfortune sometimes mortals unlock their sixth sense or see with the third eye and suddenly there are spirits everywhere; darting like shining fish under the sea; some pass without trouble, some beautiful, and some with malice for The Other. With your third eye you can see them, but also, now, if you move or breathe or draw any attention, they can see you.

This a classic evil fantasy of crazy people - trying to hide, as predatory things they can see and no others can, attack and rend the psychic self with horrible, hidden pain.

I think people are afraid of ghosts because of horror movies...not because anybody has been killed by one. :)

This isn't much of a "ghost story," but I still think its kinda neat anyways...

My aunt died from cancer about 2 years ago; leaving behind her only daughter. Before she died, she told her daughter that when she dies, to look outside of their living room window, and if she see's a rainbow that everything would be alright.

Sure enough, after she died my cousin checked out the window, and there was a rainbow right infront of her. Actually every afternoon for the next few weeks you could actually see the rainbow. (and seeing a rainbow outside their home wasn't that common.)

I totally forgot that I have a ghost story too. Mine isn't very scary. At the boarding school I went, for a while, before we bought the property, our dorms and our soccer field were right next to a small cow field. One night, some guys said that they had seen somebody or something strange in the soccer field. We went out there just to look around and kill time, but then we heard a strange whistling sound. I dont' know why, but we went back to a shed and grabbed some shovels and pick axes and headed back out to investigate. We were walking in our soccer field and headed to the barbed wire fence that seperated us from the cow field. Suddenly, I saw a strange greyish figure that looked like a horse with the outline of a man sitting on it. I freaked, dropped the shovel, and ran. Other guys saw something because they had started running at the same time or before me.

We actually have a legend/ghost story we attribute all the spooky things on the campus too. Even though it is well documented that our school is on land that was once a chicken farm, we claim that it used to be a rice field and that the owner is burried somewhere on campus. We call him, the Rice Man. One truly freaky story happened years before I started there. Apparently, in one of the dorms, the students had seen a pair of red eyes floating in the dark and that they headed to a students bed and attacked him in his sleep. The student who was attacked had scratches on him the next morning and the kids were freaked out. They wouldn't go back into the dorm until after a priest was called to bless the dorm with holy water. Freaky stuff.

My ghost story is a funny one, I guess.

I went to a small boarding school called Chinquapin in Highlands, right near Baytown. Well, one night, when I was in 9th grade I believe, some of the older guys came up to me and some friends and told us they thought they saw something in the soccer field. At this time, our field was right next to a small ranch with cattle, we had a barbwire fence and trees seperating the properties. Well, we started walking out there, feeling confident since there was like 7 or 8 of us. Anyways, we all start getting an eerie feeling, the wind starts to blow pretty hard out of nowhere causing the trees to shake. At the opposite end of our soccer field, there was a lone tree and I swear I saw something sitting up there, watching us. I think the other guys saw the same thing because we all decided to head back to one of the sheds by the dorm and grab some shovels and pick axes. We start walking out and once again the wind starts to blow as we get further into the field. We weren't actually on the soccer field, but in the grass that would be "out of bounds" so that we were between playing field and the fence and trees that seperated us from the ranch. Well, I look to my right into the cow field where I see some movement. I thought it was a cow, but they were usually sleeping by then. Suddenly what I see becomes clear. It was a pale white, but transperent figure, almost like it was made of smoke. It was in the shape of a man riding a horse. It was quick though, I spotted it, and it moved like it was charging towards the fence but suddenly disappeared. I wasn't the only one who saw it because my buddies suddenly dropped thier weapons and took off running, I wasn't far behind either.

I say it's kind of funny because it seems so out of a movie or something, like the goonies. The way we just dropped our shovels and what not, and just took off, I always looked back at that and thought it would make a funny scene.

yeah,...I'm in Humble now (use to live in Spring...) Nothing strange has happened, except my now-ex wife claiming 3 months ago that she saw my deceased Dad's favorite chair rocking in the living room...but I haven't detected anything weird in the house...I don't think he would scare me if he was here though...
