Sometimes I get scared watching Unsolved Mysteries alone.

Being superstitious, I'm totally wiggin' right now! I got more chills from this thread than any other. Now for my story:

I remember this like it was last night, and I am 25 now: When I was little, like in kindergarten or 1st grade, I woke up in the middle of the night to heavy, measured breathing. Nothing menacing, mind you, but like a grown man was alseep in my room and right on the verge of snoring (my parents are divorced, so my mom and I were the only ones in the house). Being a little kid, I was afraid, but not unreasonably terrified or anything. I stayed under my covers, and told the snoring person to show himself in my bravest voice. Nothing, and the breathing continued. I finally fell asleep again. I told my mom the next morning, but she didn't believe me. The next night, the same thing happened. I tried calling out to my mom, but she couldn't hear me as she was asleep. I fell back asleep and never heard the breathing again.

A few months later, my uncle was in town visiting with his two kids, who are both older than me by 5 and 7 years. The three of us were to sleep in my moms bed, and my mom was going to sleep in my bed. It was still relatively early, so my mom was still awake downstairs but the three of us were in my moms bed. Being little kids, we were in bed, but awake and horsing around. The eldest of us three decided I and my other cousin were being too loud and she wanted to go to sleep, so she got up and went into my room.

She returned about 5 minutes later and said, "I can't sleep in there. Someone is breathing too heavy."

No one has heard the breathing since.

My family is Irish..I have a ton of these!

Before I was born my parents had a weird encounter. My mom said she always felt like there was something right there with them. She'd feel cold breezes from out of nowhere against her legs...and she said there was one closet door that occasionally, when she'd go in, would close quite forcefully behind her. My father is quite the skeptic...but one night as they laid down to go to sleep, a strange blue light appeared, like a little ball in the air above them. She said you couldn't see through the light, it was intensely bright in and of itself, and didn't have a source streaming to it. She leaned over and whispered my father's name, and it disappeared. Eventually they laid back down and when they did it appeared again after a while, over my father's shoulder. My mom screamed this time and it disappeared. They searched the house and noticed their heavy window shades were completely covering the windows, so no light could get in from outside. My dad even went above the room in the attic. Nothing. From that point on they never again had the problems with the door shutting and the cool breezes...and the light never appeared again.

After my mom's father passed away, everyone in my family "saw" him. I had a very vivid, real dream about him where he basically said goodbye to me. But my brother and his wife actually saw him walking out of a closet in his old home. He came out in this old brown robe he used to wear and smiled at them. Then he walked back in and disappeared. My grandma was on the phone one day when she saw him walk from the entry hall into their bedroom with a sack in his hand. She put down the phone and went in the room, fully expecting to find that sack on her bed. She found nothing. She said it made her wonder if she was losing her mind, but it was SO real.

My grandma used to tell me that at her grandma's house they had a ghost they called by name. They said they could hear him walking up the stairs and throughout the house and would be like, "there goes old charlie, again!" Unbelievable! I'd be freaking out!!!

My mom's best friend has had her house struck by lightning 3 times!!!! The electrical appliances freaked out. They unplugged and turned off a radio...but it still played!! It was still playing when they dumped it in a dumpster! When the insurance adjustor came out he assessed the damage and then asked her if she believed in the supernatural. She kinda laughed it off, but he said he was serious. He said he just got a weird, cold feeling in their house. He said that in his business he had experienced that more than a few times before in homes. He suggested she get a catholic priest to do a little exorcism on the house. Pretty interesting!

I'm trying to think of some more...

Anybody ever been inside that infamous mansion in Seabrook where there was a murder several years ago? Apparently, there was like a double homocide there involving some previous gay owner who was gunned down. The mansion was bought by someone and he hired a caretaker which happened to be one of my friends. We went there one night looking around. Talking about a scary place. He was showing us where the murders happened. I was scared. It is a really spooky place right on the water with gates going all the way around it. The inside was surreal...it has an indoor swimming pool, it was kind of dumpy inside, and I wouldn't want to be alone in that place. I guess it was going to be fixed up but it had a long way to go...that is for sure. It would have been an awesome set for a haunted mansion movie. We were drinking so it was easier to be in that place. But, it was uncomfortable to say the least. I haven't seen it in a while...I wonder if it's still there?

Here is an excerpt I found on the mansion...apparently it has been demolished:

List Mansion

Toddville Road. Mr. List was in the habit of taking in young run-away boys and taking advantage of them. Eventually some of his young wards had had enough and ambushed him when he came home. They spent the evening ransacking the house and left. For a while it was a popular place for teenagers to go for "Truth or Dare" and I have heard reports that some experienced some paranormal activity. The mansion has been demolished, but perhaps Mr. List is still hanging around.

Here is a link for more paranormal activity.

Have you ever guys been awake but you can't move ? It's happened to me throughout my lifetime where I wake up flat on my stomach and I can't move. Is this just a case of the mind being awake before the body ? I vividly remember trying to scream, but of course no one hears me. My mom has told me that if you did something bad recently, a ghost will come in your sleep and lay on you. Scary.

BTw, www.ghostrac.com has some scary stories. Or, just go to Yahoo.

gr8-1, I remember a girl in college said she had that problem, and had a medical explanation for it. Please excuse my vagueness since it wasn't important to me and I didn't pay much attention. But, if she woke suddenly, she wouldn't be able to move for quite a while -- as long as a 1/2 hour she said. The explanation was that there is a chemical released while you're sleeping and her body had trouble eliminating it from her bloodstream. It may be a complete crock though she seemed sincere. Any biologists out there can help me out?

I know this isn't ghost, but I have had psychic experience, a LOT of them, and I know they say it makes you more sensitive to spirits and things like that. And after my grandmother passed away, I went back to her apartment to get something I had left. When I went in, I felt this strong, overpowering presence and I had to leave the apartment. It was like a heavy, overbearing feeling. Weird. And I had ghostly appearances from my grandmother over a year after she passed away.

Well damn gr8-1, now I have to tell my story ...

This was in early 1994. Most know I spent two years in Argentina on a church mission. I was in a city called Tres Arroyos. There were 4 of us living in this apartment... pretty run down place. Basically just two rooms... bunk bed in each room.

We all stayed up and chatted at night generally. Anyhow, one night three of us (one of the guys went to sleep) were up pretty late and started talking about supernatural experiences "friends of friends" had, evil spirits, good vs. evil, etc. I guess you could call them "ghost stories" but to me the stories were more along the lines of the movie "Ghost"... people seeing black, shadow figures, etc.

Evil spirits, basically.

We were really just discussing it because it was trippy you know -- interesting to the point of fascination. We kept going and got the point where we all just kind of stopped and looked at each other -- don't know how to explain it -- but there was like an eeriness that filled the room and we just said, "OK, lets stop talking about it and get to bed."

We're all getting ready for bed and my companion thought he heard the front door close (which, like I said, the place was a run-down shack sort of speak... almost like a garage... one way in, one way out really). We thought nothing of it though because me and the other guy were brushing our teeth, etc. and hadn't heard it.

Companion checked on it and saw nothing. Just like anything we dismissed it as some other sound confused (cabinet closing, whatever).

We all went to bed. I dozed off a little creeped out, but fell asleep just the same.

I was in the bottom bunk. I woke up in the middle of the night face down. I lifted my head from the pillow and my upper body -- it was very dark and my eyes were adjusting. I was like calm for a split second then I just felt something -- almost like panic -- that something was wrong. I turned over on my side and looked to my right, and again my eyes were adjusting to the darkness but this seemed pretty damn clear: I saw a man sitting down -- no more than 4-5 feet from my bed with his head down -- like straight down.

The best way I can describe it, ironically enough, is someone taking a break right after a basketball scrimmage. Sitting, elbows on knees, hands hanging down and looking straight down with hair draped over. Can't see the face.

But I could quickly enough... just lifted his head slowly up and looked at me.

No pointy teeth, horns, fire-breath stuff -- seemed so normal-faced but the dead stare seemed so damn evil. This happened so fast but it scared the holy hell out of me. I fell back on my back and instantaneously this intense pressure pushed me down on the bed. I'm a somewhat husky guy -- was certainly in much better shape then -- but I was quickly flattened. I could hear my heart pounding, my throat was so dry and my feet were numb from the pressure ... I remember them tingling like no circulation was getting to them.

I kept trying to yell out my companion's last name, "Bigler", but I couldn't speak. I couldn't say anything -- like I was on mute. I felt like I was screaming but the word "Bigler" would barely be audible. Again, this all happened in a matter of a few seconds, but the pressure just intensified and I kept trying to shout -- I remember grabbing the beam under the top bunk trying to shake it to get his attention.

Then finally it just burst out -- "Bigler!"

He woke up completely startled, said "What?!" and literally the second he said that all the pressure was gone.

He hopped up, turned the lights on -- nothing there where I saw this. Ironically enough there's a box right there (already there -- not saying it was "moved" there) where someone could sit. We woke up the other guy... we were all freaked out. I've never slept so poorly in my whole life. I was so freaked -- seemed like I was hearing things the rest of the night. If I had ever taken serious drugs in my life I would have said it was a flashback. Whispers running by me, or "whoosh" type sounds. I probably woke up 5-6 times over the next few hours and when I finally woke up and it was light out I've never been so thankful in my entire life.

I'm not naive to the point where I would just dismiss the possibility that this was some sort of an intense dream. In fact, over the years I rationalize it as that since we were discussing this type of stuff and it could have been fresh on the brain.

At the time I would have said that was impossible. I clearly woke up, had my senses and saw this... if my mind played tricks on me while I was sleeping then I don't know when I "woke up" for real because it was seamless.

Regardless, we never had another problem. I don't think I've told more than a few people the story though my friends remember it vividly and tell it often in all seriousness as the night we were "visited" and scared out of our senses.

Then My Mom woke up and we all starting freaking out .

Here's another one, though not as scary:

When my grandmother passed away my family was downstairs...the nurse was up in the room with her attending to her...she had lung cancer and we knew she didn't have a whole lot of time left. We were watching a movie and all of a suddent the TV freaked out...would go to static...then like wavy lines...never seen it do that since and had never seen something like that before..really hard to explain. Not a minute later, the nurse came downstairs and told us that my grandmother had passed. I've always wondered if the two were connected..maybe that's a stretch, but you hear about "spirits" interfering with other forces of energy, so it makes me wonder.

I have a friend at church who claims to have had an after-life experience that was so grim it changed his life. He was clinically dead but came out of it. He won't talk much about it, but I can tell you that he's a completely different person than what people who knew him before described him as. He just said generally that he saw some entities or something that scared the hell out of him and felt the worst loneliness and feelings of guilt he's ever experienced. He said he felt trapped too. He won't talk long about it and it usually gets him pretty emotional.

At the same time...my sister's ex-boyfriend's little brother (follow that one!) had pneumonia at about the age of 4. He was in the hospital for a long time and at times slipped into a state where he was essentially dead. He recovered and about six months later, his mom was leafing through a bible that had some pictures in it. He looked over her shoulder after a picture seemed to catch his attention. There was a picture of Jesus with his arms outstretched...the typical picture of what western art has portrayed Jesus as forever probably...the little boy looked up at his mom and said, "mom..that's the man i met at the hospital...he said he wasn't ready for me yet and that i should go home to you."

Some of these aren't ghost stories...sorry for abusing the liberty!!!

Ok, first of all i will start with this. I am very psychic I have multiple episodes a week. It can be very complex stuff, or it can be simple. Besides this psychiness my family has had multiple ghost encounters. My great grandmother and father used to live in deep south Texas, They had a place that had a hanging tree on it. This is where some crooks were hung. As the story goes, there was a ghost horse that had belonged to the robbers that ran all around there place, never leaving tracks.

I have a grandfather clock in my home, that my aunt saw her grandmother (dead) come out of.

My father saw his dead father on the rafters of a school program a long time ago.

My grandfather knew when a relative was going to die, he had white lights that chattered fly around in his room.

Before my grandfather died, my aunt, (grandmothers sister) had a vision of him dying and heard a song with some very telling lyrics in her mind.

I know what you mean Francis3422. Not to dwell into the world of the bizarre, but I have had episodes where, for a half an hour at a time I KNEW when the phone would ring, I even started to pick up the phone right before it rung! I have seen the spirits of loved ones after they have passed in my dreams, and I even dreamed up lottery numbers before! (not the complete numbers, something like 3 or 4 of the numbers). I dreamed the numbers, and I just KNEW these numbers would follow, so I played them, 3 numbers. Not only did those numbers fall, they fell EXACTLY how I dreamed them, and I got a few bucks. Weird things like that.

I used to live in a large apartment building in Downtown Seattle. Although it wasn't really a retirement home, most of the residents were in their eighties. I am sure that there were many deaths in that apartment. Anyway, many times while sitting on the couch I would feel as sudden gush of air as if someone was walking past me. No one was ever there.
I also remember living in another apartment which was surrounded by forrested areas. Now and then I would be up really late, and at precisely 4:15 am, I would hear the distinct sound of a supermarket trolly being pushed outside on the ground. Always at around 4:15 in the morning. Spooky stuff. I am not a religious person, but I do believe in some sort of ghosts. This subject is always interesting.

Cool Max. Do come up with some more stories. I love scaring myself for some reason.

I've told this one before here, but this thread is appropriate to have it posted again:

My Jr year in high school, I had a very vivid dream of my dad coming to say goodbye to me, and that he loved me very much. I'd rather not go into too much more detail, so to make a long story short, the next morning I got the phone call: my dad had died of heart failure in his sleep.

RocksMillenium, the winning #s for this Saturday is.... [IMG]

Here is one witnessed by my wife (girlfriend at the time):
This happened about 9 years ago. My wife's family used to own a restaurant and she would work as a waitress. There is one table at the corner of the restaurant where the family would eat lunch, dinner and also sat while chatting with friends.
At the time, my mother-in-law to-be was really ill and was in the hospital. While preparing drinks for customer, my wife noticed Mrs. XXX (a good friend of her mother) was sitting in the table. So my wife turn to her sister, who was standing next to her, and asked "When did Mrs. XXX arrived?" Her sister reply "Where?" My wife turned to point at the table and "Mrs. XXX" was no where in sight. My wife asked the rest of the staff members and no one had seen a person sitting at that table. This was 1:00pm in the afternoon.

2 days later, my wife's family received a call from Mrs. XXX's family. It appears that Mrs. XXX was really sick and was in sick bed for the past week. Mrs. XXX passed away 2 days prior to that phone call.

Coincidentally (?), my mother-in-law to-be passed away few weeks later.

Clutch, that is scary, don't know if you can pass it off as a dream or what.

It's all kind of coming back to me now. A few years ago, I woke up and saw a ragged-looking guy in a plaid shirt sitting by my bed. He kind of looked like the redhead from the "children of the corn" movie. I just put my head under the covers and pretend he wasn't there, as if I were dreaming. But, was I dreaming ? I can usually seperate nightmares from reality, and I'm beginning to think it was not a nightmare.

Also, this last summer,I had a crush on this girl. Well, it happened twice where I woke up and saw a dark figure or shadow that looked just like her. I even called out her name. The second time I was so scared that I threw a pillow at it.

But, were those spirits that I saw ? Or, was it simply that it was dark and my mind was playing tricks on me ? It may have been my inner psyche at work, I don't know.

BTW, the waking up and not being able to move thing has always scared the crap out of me. It's like I can't breathe when it's happening, and the only part of me that can move is my head.
