I remember what a big deal it was that we drafted a TE the year after Pardee left. We hadn't had one on the roster in years. Not even for special teams or goal-line situations.
Seems like almost every documentary about Houston sports is a painstaking re-creation of us getting kicked in the balls.
When I read this I laughed and laughed; I don't know exactly why, but it felt very therapeutic.:grin: I am having a hard time stoping. I just think it is such a graphic picture of how I have felt for over fifty years. Houston sports is so tragic it is really a comedy. And it just continues. We all know in our heart of hearts that McNair and his little buddy are going to so screw this up and hire another mistake. This is so certain, there is really no drama. It is going to happen.
I ended up finding a stream to watch it on. That said, the last 5 mins of the program made me sick to my stomach. What could have been and with that said **** Bud Adams and the horse he rode out on. Ugh
The last segment was tough to watch. Just a mixture of sadness and anger. I appreciated how the story arc didn't blame the city of Houston for the team leaving though. That rested squarely on Bud and his Oilers.
Yeah, he had a 2000 yarit season in 93... well almost. 1000+ yards in 8 games. The Rockets haven't handled the spotlight either this season, getting beat by the Lakers and Clippers already. There's 7 more national games this month alone. Do better or we're in the 8th seed by New Year's. Ditto. I'm out of town and can't set the DVR. Sad and true. The Jimmy V story/speech is like a back handed compliment.
Man, Houston football has been cursed a long time. A mess even when winning. Lot of memories came back watching that. KC loss pissed me off more than Buffalo....then of course the ****storm that came the next year. Buddy Ryan really helped **** over that team. Adams ****ed over everything else. Forgot how bad that last year was....
30 for 30 on ESPN had the '83 NC State game on at the exact same time as the '93 Oilers. Seriously? The darkest moments in Houston sports history on the same night at the same time.
Except the Oilers recovered after their bad start and so did Moon after being benched. But the criticism of Pardee mismanaging the QB situation did sound very familiar. Man, Buddy Ryan was a huge ********er. I do find it funny that he only lasted 2 years in Arizona before being fired and retiring. He was also criticized for mismanaging his QBs. Meanwhile, Kevin Gilbride, who Buddy said would be selling insurance in a year, is still coaching 20 years later.
I don't want to read any of the comments yet. I am just about to play the episode on my DVR. This is going to be tough to watch my youth will always have a tarnish on it because of these three season culimnating in the above mentioned 1993 season. Why am I subjecting myself to this? I don't know. Let's see how it goes.
