I used to dislike Kerry's stance on Iraq a whole lot more than I do now. But after hearing some things and doing some research we find what Bush talked about with the authorization vote. I believe Kerry when he says that he voted for the authorization but not the war. That's basically what Bush told the congress he was doing. Here are some exerpts of what Bush said about the authorization he was sending to congress. Kerry shouldn't have voted for that authorization, but is it Kerry's fault that the President claimed he wanted the authorization in order to keep the peace? Even Kerry's statement at the very time he voted for the authorization is consistent with what Kerry has always said. Here are some more selected quotes from Kerry courtesy of Will Saletan's article. The full article is full of links, and other great tidbits which bring to light the flip flop controversey. But notice the consistency in Kerry's message on Iraq over the years. This piece goes through the way the Republicans have edited and hatcheted Kerry's comments to be a flip flopper when in reality he's been remarkably consistent and with the same message. It's odd that the press is just now starting to come around to this, but better to have the truth late than never. Please read the entire article, and click on the associated links. One of them goes to this counter-question puts to Bush which I think deserves an answer. When examined with the magnifying glass of truth we see that Kerry has held the same position for Iraq since the beginning. The Republicans have been successful up until now of playing it off as flip flops, through media trickery. I would hope that we don't want to rely on trickery and dishonesty, and distortion to select a President. Those kind of tactics don't make strong leadership, they make corrupt leadership.
