I think you should mail pictures of your bandaged daughter to the dog owners. Maybe you'll be able to guilt those idiots to actually consider being more responsible.
Did you read his latest post? Not that they were entirely responsible pet owners, but they were getting along fine until the dog was startled. That doesn't excuse the owners allowing the pet to play with the kids, but the parents were as well. She sounds like a great girl, IROC it! I'm glad she's dealing with this the way she is!
Yes, I did. But the fact of the matter is... if those people are showing their house, they should secure their dog. Period. I don't care how old it is. I don't care what breed it is. They should have secured it. They're idiots for not secure it, and a 3-year-old girl paid the price for their idiocy. What if she'd lost an eye?
I'm sorry, but if the owners are idiots, then the parents are as well for letting their kids play with the dog. I don't think either one of them are as this sounds like it was an out of the blue thing that's not normal behavior for this old dog with cataracts.
<droxford exits the debate> I'm sorry to hear that your little girl got hurt, IROC it and I hope that she has a speedy recovery and enjoys playing with the cool new puppy!
stupid neighborhood, we have tons of stray dogs ... and for someone dogophobic like me, ugh... i just got back from work, and some ugly big white dog was pissing at my mailbox, i was liek, damn lucky to have my garage door opener on me... anyways nice to hear about your daughter doin better iroc
are weirmararners good with kids? my bf really wants one of those but i didn't grow up with dogs and i'm allergic to cats so i'm a bit of a non-animal lover. i like to look at them from a distance but i get scared by them easily. when i'm around nice ones for awhile tho, i do end up enjoying them. IROC-good to hear!! i'm glad she can realize that that was just one mean dog. how is your wife taking it? i know my mom would be p*ssed if that happened to us growing up. lucky for me tho, i never got near dogs so that prob wouldn't have happened. i usually just stood behind my bro and sis while they petted it.
I stand by my bare hands statement even though the dog is 14 and blind. Nothing will harm my kids and not be harmed back. Like the signs say, 'Violators will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law." Whatever the law allows me as a reaction I will do. I am glad everything is turning out ok.
Judge all you like. It changes nothing. The dog felt threatened and protected itself, just as I will defend my children if they are threatened.
If my dog did that, i'd beat the **** out of my dog and would never allow it around kids again. However I think of my dogs as kids and if I saw you trying to harm my dog with your bare hands regardless of what my dog may have done, then you and I would be going at it.
Very sorry to hear about the events Iroc but glad to hear your daughter is doing well. You are a class act and seem to be handling the situation in a way most us could learn a lot from. I can't say how I would react if that happen to my toddler--noone could unless they actually lived such a moment, but I hope I would handle it during and after as well. "Internet" muscles. Sometime bad **** just happens even with humans are being reasonably responsable--be in with training their pets, teaching their children, driving a car, walking on the sidewalk, etc, that seems to be the case here, and a few other cases people describe.
Not sure if he's read about them or has been around one, but Weimaraners are one of the if not the most difficult dog to have. When they are young, they are very hyper and destructive, you must have a yard. They love people so much that if they are left alone for any period of time, they will go crazy, develop seperation anxiety and will tear up more stuff and will even start hurting themselves. They are very intelligent thats part of the problem. Mine is good with kids in a way that she really just ignores kids, she wants to be around her owner or other adults, and for the most part she ignores other dogs too. I have heard however that the males are a little more territorial and stand offish so they may not be good with kids. I work a lot so mine developed seperation anxiety, she got depressed woudldn't eat and tore up everything, dug holes, etc... The vet finally told me I needed to get another dog for her, so I got another dog and that helped her out, made a night and day difference, so having 1 weimaraner with no other dogs and a job is not a good combination. I learned this the hard way.
What if a bully beat the crap out of your kid and put he/she in the hospital? Would you take it into your own hands to go beat the crap out of the bully? I view this situation in the same way for those of you saying you would physiclally harm someone elses dog.
I guess the difference is that I don't equate a human life to that of a dog, and yes, if a bully beat up my kid and put him in a hospital, there would be severe repurcussions unless someone got to them before me.
Wow...I never knew that being a dad protecting his children would make me a badass. And here I thought I was just a mild mannered high school English teacher. I guess I'd better start wearing a black leather jacket, chains, and pick up a pack of Marlboro Reds.
