i have a lab who is a great guard dog. he'll only bark if he notices anyone near the house. i always tell people that he's all bark and no bite. maybe now, i'll be a bit more cautious. when i've let him loose at times in the front yard, i've seen him run towards a neighbor barking and startling the person. but, as soon as he gets near them, he'll just run past and go another direction. this incident makes me think twice about letting him loose. i wish the best for your family.
PRAYERS in order for you and your family. I love dogs, but THAT DOG needs to be put down. Also, the owners should at the least be fined for failure to control their animal. I see you in the people's court. You will win no matter where you were or what your daughter was doing. Your daughter is the only victim here. I PRAY she will fully recover and she can gain the confidence to be around ANY animal in the future. Que dios bendiga a su niƱa, Iroc.
I was attacked by a german sheppard when I was 10 years old and we sued the owners to a tune of 10k. My circumstances were different as I was in my friend's backyard at the time and they were in their backyard petting their 2 dogs (the other was a pit bull pup). It's almost like they let the dogs go and they attacked me on my friends property. I only had puncture wounds to my right arm and left knee(with a HUGE chunk of fat hanging out of it ), but we took pictures immediately the next day and even though our idiot public lawyers told us to file the case the wrong way( which got it immediately dismissed), we had the pictures and 6 months later my father met a lawyer that took(he actually jumped at it once he knew we had photos) the case and we won it. Looking back it was sort of a blessing in disguise, I wouldn't have had ANY chance of getting a car when I was high school/college, but I got the money on my 18th birthday and was rollin . Heck, I still love dogs, although I know to be cautious around them, you have to remember that they are still just animals.
What a terrible experience. I've never seen a dog attack a small child, but a rule of thumb for my family is that if there is a dog half the size of your child, never let it be closer to your child than you are. Dog's can go crazy sometimes, well trained, loving dogs, for no good reason.. it's just weird. Hopefully your daughter will bounce back (it seems like she already has) and you'll all be able to get on with your lives.
My daughter went through a similar but less serious dog bite experience at about the same age. There were no long term consequences, other than we are all more careful around strange dogs, and more careful with our dogs. The dog that bit her was a lab that belonged to a friend. It was used to children and had never bit anyone. We were in the room when it happened, and never figured out what caused the dog to do what it did. Good luck.
i f*kin hate owners who let their dogs off their leash, and those bastards say, my dog dont bite, **** that, wtf are those teeth there for.. ya i got attacked by a dog in 1st grade, hated em ever since... if i see a stray dog around, i call animal control, and if they take more than a day to take care of it, i call the cops, because i dont want no dog to maul my family members. after all, as much as you all defend dogs, they are beasts. why cant the dogs here be like the ones in india, ,where their afraid of the cats,
Sorry to hear this. I hope recovery goes well. Do you have any recourse against the dog owners? They should be liable for the actions of their dog. I don't understand why these dogs were not contained if they knew people were coming to look at the house...even if the dogs were previously non-aggressive? As a dog owner myself, that is just plain stupid on their part. Put em in a room or something.
Was it a pitt bull? My prayers are with you, good thing it didn't get her eye or worse. Probably safe to say you should't buy that house, she'll probably have more trauma going back to the place of attack.
no wisdom or stories to share here. But your post sent shivers down my spine. Wishing the absolute best to your daughter and your family.
Very sad to hear about it, IROCit. I feel the same anger as adeelsiddiqui. I'm sure that many people here have figured out that one of my biggest pet peeves is irresponsible pet owners. I truly hope your daughter will be okay.
That's absolutely horrible. I am so sad for you. I have had a few uneasy encounters with large dogs myself lately while out on various hikes. I have developed the opinion that people should be required to possess a special permit in order to own a dog larger than a specified size. Large dogs are just too dangerous. I never thought this would ever happen, but in recent years I have come to appreciate the virtues of cats. Cats >>>> Dogs.
My cousin was attacked by a dog whe she was three years old as well. She is 24 now and you would never know it. She had facial lacerations as well to her left cheek, mouth, nose , and eye. My cousin was afraid of dogs for a little while but she's fine now. As far as I can remember she had some follow up plastic surgery procedures shortly after the attack that really improved her chances of healing perfectly. She actually does some modeling now so her healing process went very very well. I hope your little girl recovers smoothly and it sounds like she will come out of this horrible experience okay.
Dogs act funny around smaller people (kids). My doberman is sweet and gentle with everyone, but I can't keep him around kids. He's never growled or attacked a kid, but he acts funny and thats enough for me to keep him away from them.
Sorry to hear about it, I hate it when bad things happen to good people... especially children. I'll talk to the man up stairs for her.
God bless you and your family and I'll will pray for a speedy recovery...What happened to the dog? sorry if you've already answered this, as I didn't scroll down, but did you kick the **** out of it or have it put in a pound...
I've seen enough episodes of Judge Judy (when my back was out ) to know she is hell on dog owners. She gave them absolutely no slack in cases like these and held them entirely responsible. I hope all judges are the same... Best wishes IROC!
