I think this offense is extremely effective and can be excellent for the appropriate team, but the Rockets are not that team. I agree with Dakota, studogg, etc that the players on this team simply cannot make the effective reads. This quote from the article basically indicates the types of players needed for the offense

"the intelligence to "read" how the defenders are playing and, then, executing the fundamentals to make the correct play."

If you read through the two articles its pretty obvious that there is plenty of if A happens then you do B or if B happens then you do C. There are plenty of situations in this offense where the there are several possibilities of what can happen in a play and players have to make decisions on the fly. Otherwise, the play breaks down and we are back to freelancing. Sacto and NJN have the intelligent players to make the "read" that the article indicates is necessary.

In addition, the high post offense part is basically out under JVG. I cant recall any times this season in the games I watched where JVG ran a true high post set with Yao. It seems his plan for Yao is to dominate around the hoop and continue to catch the ball lower. JVG seems to have an aversion from pulling Yao away from the hoop and instead tries to use some of the tactics that Phil Jackson uses with Shaq ie post and re-post, dump into the post with action away from the ball, dump into the post and send one cutter on a zig zag (happens with JJ a good bit). For Steve Francis, it seems the focus is still running the high pnr and for Mobley catching on the elbow and creating or otherwise receiving 3 pt shots in the flow.

The offensive plan thus far seems to be more of tweaking and creating suttle changes to gain steady improvement as opposed to completely overhauling what these players are used to. Problem is, thus far the shots havent been falling and the fastbreak is an absolute joke. To win consistently, this team does not have to have the offense of the Kings; an above average offense with a top notch defense (which has been the Spurs recipe for success) should do just fine.

ha didn't see this post coming. i will agree that i don't have confidence in the bulk of our current players learning a system too complicated.
