Can someone please tell me what Morey is doing with this roster. This looks like a roster that will not win a championship obviously and there isn't any superstars out there that will come to Houston (Dwight/Chris Paul). It appears that we are stuck with barely missing the playoffs or getting role in the 1st round for the next 3 or 4 years.
Agreed, But some dont want to admit this team is lottery bound again if there isn't atleast 2 major moves this offseason. Morey knows this, it's why he was trying so hard to trade up and get a potentially great player. As of now there are no great players on the roster. There haven't been for going on 3yrs now.
Maybe I'm just speaking for myself but I think the last thing most of us saw coming was DM selecting and walking away from the draft with three potential rookies. Bottom line: too many bodies -- a 2-for-1 or 3-for-1 trade is clearly the way to go (hence the Biedrins rumor).
Is there any chance of the new CBA expanding the roster with a mind on strengthening the D-League? I would like to see the roster expanded to 18, keep the active roster the same, and maybe add some limits on how often a player can be sent down/brought up. It would be nice to have Williams, Motiejunas, and Parsons all on the Vipers next year.
Those 2009 draft players are gonna be the ones stuck in the numbers crunch. Odds are exceedingly high that, if we keep any of them on our roster this upcoming year, that we don't exercise their options for 2012-2013 anyways, so the threshold for trading them or waiving them before the season is that much lower. Yes it would suck to sacrifice 5M+ in Thabeet's salary by waiving him before the season. Yes it would mean the Battier trade was a failure. Nevertheless, it might be necessary to cut losses and not worry about looking good in this regard. At the time it was a risk thought to be worth taking, but the situation has changed now. And especially if we can get a FA center or one through trade.
So Many gloomy faces! We are rebuilding our team, do you understand this fact? After the addition of three younger player with potential, I am upbeat that we we will be back into the Payoffs this next season. Besides this I would not be surprised for Morey to add another Center and another player. Possibly the following players may not with us next season- Hayes, Hill, Thabeet, Lee, Cousins, Blakely. Still expect Yao to be back!!
This is the most likely scenario. I expect Yao to be the odd man out on the roster since he most likely will not be able to play when the season starts. When he becomes healthy, a decision will be made on who to cut or trade for a conditional 2nd round pick. 2 for 1 trades are too hard to find in this league.
Considering the fact that an alarming amount of teams are in the red these days the likelihood of the NBA voting to add payroll?
none of the rookies have been signed yet I am going to guess that Parsons will get the Maarty/Eliyahu/Lull treatment and go overseas. D-Mo may stay over one more year depending on the lockout here. Really I see Morris getting a deal before the season starts for sure and if D-Mo does that means there will be one open spot most likely for Hayes and then hopefully a 2 for 1 or a 3 for 2 deal gets done to free up a spot if/when Yao can return or at the very least add flexibility for future roster moves to have an open spot
Interesting, I agree about Parsons, but I would like D-Mo here as soon as possible to work with Scola, because I have to believe that Luis will be moved at some point and D-Mo needs to pick his brain and learn. DD
So, the really incredibly lame nickname of "D-Mo" is actually catching on? Especially given the rich wordplay possibilties of a guy named Donatas Montajuas or whatever. This is probably the single most disappointing development of the entire offseason for me. Thanks McHale.
Does Yao really count against our roster at this point. I thought he was labeled an injured player and we had roster spot open on his behalf.
Hopefully Blakely and Cousin were signed to replace Thabeet and Hill. We could then package Thabeet and Hill with Flynn for the ultimate 2009 Lotto Bust Trad Package. Maybe we can pick Patrick O'Bryant up, I hear th Rockets need a center.
With D-Mo possibly staying in Europe this year and Parsons not guaranteed a contract, I really don't see a problem. I do think someone will be gone, just because Morey is a very active GM.
Dragic Lee and Filler for Asik Filler, Korver? and Cha pick. The need offense off the bench a starting SG and someone to let Rose rest more and they could win it all. We get size and a very valuable pick. I would rather Flynn here but I don't think it would be a good enough trade at this moment.
They could do it without adding payroll, especially if the max salary is lowered. These would be minimum players that you're adding.
Apparently the free ride of potential is spreading pretty thin for the 2009 lottery rejects from other teams.... Flynn had himself a nice rookie season, statistically speaking (now let's see if he can recover from his injury - and it may be doubtfull since Morey got himself a 2nd rounder after Flynn's physical). Jordan Hill's shown flashes here and there but has had not consistency. Thabeet apparently has shown nothing in 2 seasons to keep him on the floor. T-Will seems to be a discontent under everyone. He faltered in New Jersey and he's had problems with Adelman. Morey though thinks there is an All-star talent.
Some of you guys are giving up on Jordan Hill. After many posters talked him up, since he has been traded here. I would give him another year, maybe. There's still some untapped potential there. But for the right deal, definitely. For Biedrins, maybe. Biedrins isn't really a great defender and his numbers have been terrible, as well and oft-injured. http://www.pacersdigest.com/apache2-default/showthread.php?t=65546
