i don't know that i'm ready to say, "no chance." but i definitely agree...they're going to be VERY tight tonight.
Definitely will be tight. It's going to be tough to take the field a day after knowing that you blew such a great chance to get to the Series. Prior was absolutely dominating the Marlins' lineup, and they were 5 outs away. I have to give it to Dusty Baker in a way, though. In a sense, by making that fan the scapegoat instead of acknowledging his own team's meltdown, he's absolving his team of their failure. He's got to hope they buy into that and maintain their confidence.
Not to put all of the blame on the fan, I just think that incident is what killed the Cubs. I mean here you have the prototypical Cubs fan, sitting and enjoying the game, a lovable loser (just look at him) and he gets in the way, something he did innocently, but something he definitely shouldn't have done. That play just killed the Cubs, I mean, their momentum just crashed at that point. It was like they realized they weren't being the Cubs by winning, and that they should fulfill their destiny by choking. I've been a Cubs fan my whole life, and I've never really expereinced this winning thing, and so when the fan interfered, it was tragic in the true sense of the word. Hopefully it will get rid of a bunch of band wagon jumpers.
Exactly. All these other fans were right with him trying to catch that ball. Then they all turn him, but if Gonzalez, who is supposed to be a better fielder than hitter, makes that play, they would have never made a big deal about it. It is like any other sports contest where one team looks like a sure winner but loses a heartbreaker. There are a number of plays that contributed to the loss such as Dusty Baker running up Prior's pitch counts too high, Farnsworth being terrible out of the pen, the botched grounder by Gonzalez, etc. And there is no guarantee that Moises Alou actually catches that ball if the stands are empty, after all we are talking about Moises Alou here. I hope that the Cubs win because if they lose, we will hear about this guy "costing" them for the rest of our lives instead of all the other factors that contributed to the loss.
Did FOX show the fan being led out of the stadium with heavy security? If so how did they remove him?
Poor guy, his mug is everywhere, but I agee, he wasn't the only one going for it, just happened to be the last guy to touch it... Also, yeah it would have been one out, but the cubs BP still let them score the remaing runs that lost them the game, not just that one fan...
His name has been revealed, and it's in a Sun-Times story. Notre Dame grad. I will buy him a beer someday.
Excatly, thats what you do, baseball is all about momentum and morale. Thats why I think Pedro was smart to bean Garcia, got his team into it and now this series means something more.... elevates his teams play, and he didn't even get kicked out for it. Brilliant tactical move. Old school ball players man....
Man thats bad, you can google to the renegades website from the suntimes article and find this guys email address. He's going to have to change that I think. Just think, a million emails that all say, you suck nerd.
Also, you know what's sad? The guy has been a hardcore Cubs fans for life, and now he's probably getting death threats from people who haven't heard of Mark Prior or Kerry Wood until this past week. Pathetic.
if you're the "surrender" with a big red custom title somewhere else, then you're ok in my book. otherwise admin please delete
