There's about 10 people going for that ball and all 40k of those bozos would have been in that situation. Those hypocrites were classic. Then, the security guards show up and they all point at him like he's OBLaden carrying a bomb. Also, what the hell was Alou doing all the way over to the foul line? That fan's probably been sitting there for 2 years and never seen Alou that close before!
If I was a Cubs fan, I'd be blaming the fan too. I just finished had a 20 minute argument with one of my closest friends, a continuation of the 45 minute argument we had last night, about whether the fan was to blame. I know I'm in the minority (outside of Chicago), but I truly do blame this guy for his actions. Geez, I'm exhausted now.

Actually, the problem is easily solvable. All you have to do is run a hedge down the side of every stadium that is roughly two feet from the fans. Consider it a wall. It doesn't obstruct view. It still looks good, no fan interference, and no controversy. It also prevents people from jumping the field. Players would be able to lean over the hedge to catch a ball but not land on the other side. Just like with a home run. Done. It's the same theory as an oil tanker. Build a buffer of emptiness so that if oil spills it spills into the buffer rather than the ocean. 95% of the problem solved with a bush.

you're kidding right? you know fans have "interfered" with homeruns too, right? anything that makes the game less intimate for the fans in the ballpark is something i'm against.

nah, I got nothing important to add. So I shall add. I'm a Sox fan and I'm not too ashamed to admit that I kind of enjoyed that. I live about a mile from the park and there were plenty of belligerent drunks around last night. Tonight it could be a lot worse. It's against my fiber to root for the Cubs but I couldn't help but to feel sorry for the true fans last night. However with the entire nation in HOORAY KUBZMANIA it's only turned my cold soul, err, colder. About that guy? Hmm. Almost anybody else would have done that last night. Tonight I guarantee if there's a ball in the first couple of rows of seats and there's a possibility of a play on the ball then it'll be much different. They'll be diving to get out of the way as if the ball were a live grenade. I don't think it's fair that they're plastering the guy's face everywhere because of what may happen if the Cubs lose tonight. The real goats of this game are Dusty Baker and Alex Gonzalez and the rest of the Cubs - but you won't hear about that at all.
What kind of moron would challenge The Fan to a fight in front of security? Yeah, I'm sure security is going to let them go at it in the parking lot. Dusty Baker could have absolved The Fan last night but he didn't. Baker can't accept responsibility. All he has to say is "we lost the game. Not The Fan". I hope the Marlins beat the crap outta the Cubs.
Agreed. A mistake by a fan on a foul ball with one out and one man on base costs them the game, but an error by a professional on an inning ending double play just sort of happens. Eight runs.
The Cubs fell apart and choked in the postseason. Which is, let's face it, new only in that this year they lasted until October before reverting to form instead of August or September. I give them absolutely no chance to win Game 7, the same as the 86 Red Sox after Buckner's error. Marlins - Yankees world series here we come (Yanks in 6).
