    David S -

You are right. I would just like to see this group of talented individuals get the chance to develop into a team before everyone panics and wants to break it up and trade either Steve or Yao.

I still have nightmares of 1997- all that talent and no point guard. Remember Matt Maloney trying to guard Stephon Marbury of Jason Kidd, or Gary Payton??? I stuck with the Rockets through that horrifying period......

I really appreciate having a talented point guard in Steve Francis. Having this kind of talent is so cool...These guys are young and talented. No Barkley, Drexler, Pippen, or Hakeem with limited time left..

Yao is invaluable as a smart- talented big man is so rare. Both of these players are special.

    They need time to develop.

We just do not have a team yet.

Your poll sucks! I can't choose between one, it isn't fair.

We aren't going to break up this squad (I hope). Besides, if Steve left we should probably consider Mobley gone with him. That is over 40pts per night walking out the door. They are core players that we will build around with the Franchise leading the way. Kinda like Kareem/Worthy/Magic - Bird/Parrish/McHale - Francis/Ming/Mobley. :)

I really can't agree with the fact that over 80% of the people here think that Ming is more of a keeper than Steve. We don't even really know what Ming is capable of doing - or if he's capable of doing anything consistently. We do know that Steve is capable of at least taking this team to the playoffs. I wouldn't give up certainty for a shot at it.

well, i really don't think this thread make any sense.
if we don't have steve, i'm sure the rockets will draft j.williams.
maybe not 100%, but at least 90%. steve is the reason we got ming here. beside, we needed steve's luck to have the lottery pick, didn't we?

    Party poopers shut up!

If you don't want to participate in this thread - DON'T. The person who generated this thread/poll categorically said "If" as in If one of steve and ming has to go.who you want to KEEP?

I have been dissapointed by Stevie Francis a whole lot. I still like him so I hope he turns his stupidity around soonest. He is our leader but he sucks at that right now in a big big way. His immaturity is both mind boggling and naive. He is 26 years old - a four year veterean of the NBA for goodness' sake. He either grows up fast or feel the heat and wrath of the rocket fans. Enough is enough of his garbage decision making and leadership!!!

    Kenny Smith was right afterall.

Everybody get over it. This thread is great because it's is a nice consensus on which player fans think is more important to the team. Neither is going to get traded.

If I had to get rid of one it would be Yao. Everyone is voting YAo right know because he is new and is the popular right now. But Francis will allways bwe the better player so I would take him.

Ming isn't exactly setting the turnstiles on fire at home. On the road, it's a different story...

For those of you who prefer to keep SF, plz state your reasons. Is it because of his athleticism or his BB IQ, his ballhogging or his team play ability. For Yao, it's quite obvious-- team player, great passing, ability to create mismatch, great hands, deadly outside touches, an arsenal of of inside moves, defensive presence in the paint, global marketability, nice personality, and the list goes on. By the way, almost forget to mention he is 7' 5 1/2", not 6' 3", in case yall didnt notice.

    What a stupid poll!
Trade one of our two best players?
I think the people around them are the problem.
If Steve passes who is going to hit an open shot?
    Everyone is ice right now.
Yao is just starting to figure out how to play while being doubled and tripled in the NBA.
    Give them time.
All this talk about trades with a winning record!
    Geez.

Thanks for pointing that out - I had him confused with Calvin Murphy until you said that he was 7'5 1/2"

Everyone is picking Yao because of potential and not results. I never hope this happens, but Yao could get some kind of chronic injury and have a limited career like Sampson.

Francis is a consistent team leader in his fourth season and putting up All Star #'s. He has gotten better every season and can dominate a game when he wants. He still needs to improve on passing the ball and limiting his TO's.

Until Yao proves himself year in and year out - I will take Francis.

What exactly dissapoints you the most? His high level of play? Ability to take over a game? His teammates not making their shots so he has to take them on his back and carry them?

If everyone could hit their shots then the Francis hate magically turns into Francis love. His major flaw to me is turnovers, those would go down if he knew he could pass the ball and count on a teammate to score.

Kenny Smith is a horrible NBA analyst, he is no better than Tolbert, Barkley, Walton, or Vecsey.

I would be willing to bet that if this years team is not gelling together by the end of the year, that Rudy will consider shipping Francis and or Mobley out the door.

Remember people...Francis is locked up to a long term deal...he is not going anywhere.

Also, remember that winning cures everything, and sometimes you have to force feed someone the truth.

The truth is that Yao is a SMARTER basketball player then Steve and the Rockets would be BETTER right NOW with Yao the main man on the offensive end.

It would result in better team play and better shot selection.

Francis is not good at basketball decisions...he is better, but still a LONG way from good.

Yao has more than potentials. I guess you havent seen played yet. Lebron James is a potential, see all the hype he got. Yao plays pro ball for years and already playing in NBA, so far he has converted many doubters, probably not you though. SF is a consistent TEAM player, my foot. I hope its a typo error. He is a great individual player, not a team player by a long stretch. Did you see all the uninspiring passes he has made so far. How many time did you see him jack up the ball rather than pass it to Yao in a pick n roll. Team player, my ass. He definitely WANT to dominate every game with all the shots he put up. He got no BB IQ. Well I guess you can't teach Yao to have 35" vertical leap just as you cant teach BB IQ to SF. Oh sure, SF is made of steel, with all the jumping and running into traffic, he's injury free. Guarantee. He is superhuman, too bad he got migraine. Or you can blame his low IQ on that.

So, no SF lovers can answer my questions. Huh?

Let me see, these are SF attributes:
    1) passing--mediocre
    2) creating team offense--mediocre
    3) making his teammates better--mediocre
    4) rebounds- great for a guard, so he could take them away from his own front court.
    5) raising the total assists of the team-mediocre
    6)defense-mediocre
7)offense-- great, not dominate, and only mostly individually.

Well, please feel free to add to the list. Oop, I forgot to mention about his mediocre BB IQ.

Steve and Yao are just learning how to play together, so don't blame Francis for not always feeding Yao. Defenses are keying on Yao already, so he is not open as much. Francis is learning a new offense, he has never had a (healthy)legit big man to pass the ball to. Steve will only get better at involving everyone in the new offense, which is a big change from the ISO system of the last few years.

Go back and check, I didn't doubt Yao, so there was no conversion needed. I am happy to see him playing well. He has great potential and has shown a lot of skills. I don't doubt the guy, but just as it was too early to say he was a bust 3 weeks ago, it is too early to say he is the better player on the team after just a few good games.

I never said Francis was perfect, take off your Yao Ming is my hero goggles and just look at the facts. Ming is going to be great I hope - but he isn't there yet.

Francis has a 43" vertical leap...

    I watch every game.

I hope you are foreign born person, otherwise your english stinks. There are other Smilies besides "rolleyes". :)
