I'm hoping it doesn't come to this but someday we could all be looking back if the US goes to war with Iraq, North Korea (or whatever country) and wonder what we were b****ing about when the NBA quits play while the networks bombard us with war coverage.

I know that seems farfetched but so did a terrorist attack in NYC until it happend.

Bottom line: we should ENJOY the sports and freedoms that we have. There is more to life than Rudy's coaching decisions (or lack of, according to some), Francis' turnovers, or Yao Ming's "rookie wall".

I now fully understand why there are those who post in the hangout forum only.

Thanks for the comments, all. I am really interested in hearing everyone's personal thoughts on this.

My own belief is that the squeaky wheel tends to get the grease. Those who complain the most vehemently are nearly always the one's that get heard. I think that the game naturally lends itself to agressive feelings because there is competition involved. The agression that is built out of that, nevermind the adrenaline from the actual game, lead to less logical discussion and more outburst.

But, all the thoughts are interesting and I really don't have a gripe about those who would complain. It is certainly their right to do so and it definitely keeps the board lively.

    "A vorstein?"
"That's not even a real word."

I think this forum could use more "Houston is a crappy sports town threads". Yeah, that NEVER gets old.

People like to b**** about stuff that they have no control over.

Maybe Nixon was right. There is a satisfied silent majority out there. There are just a few hippie freaks trying to stir things up, a vocal minority.

I rather just win. I don't give a crap how we do it as long as we don't cheat, flop or play dirty like the jazz.

Talk back radio is interesting, what usually happens is the people that are not complaining just Don't call up, why would they, they have nothing to vent and even if they do the station is likely not put them on, cause praising the team doesn't help ratings.

The thing i don't get (maybe cause play and coach) is, especially around here is belief the Rockets should make every shot and win every game. In any sport you quite often hear the losing player/team say "they were the better team on the day" (both the titans and eagles said this) so why is it (i have no idea) why fans can't accept that sometimes the Other team is just better in that particular game???

    any thoughts?

Criticism is fine, as long as it is constructive. Otherwise, it's just moaning, and that gets old really fast.

    That's my take anyway.

I was nodding when I read your post, JoeBarelyCares, until I got to the "a few hippie freaks trying to stir things up... " part.

    Not true!
    Not true!

After a win, I think most of the 10,000+ there are around here (somewhere) just read the threads with a warm, happy glow. After a terrible loss (like the Knicks game) they want to take names, kick a$$, and post.

    In my humble opinion.

    So true Smeggy,

If we win 50 games this year, that is 32 really sucky days here at cc.net, and the other 50 are, "Well, that's what they should be able to do. I've been saying that all along. How come we can't do this every game?"

or, if we win using a style a complainer hates, "We are not going to be able to win that way every game." That's a real quote on this BBS after the Laker's game.

Complaints are fine. Some are even good. Some thoughts should be expressed.

Suggesting Stevie be traded is rediculous. Impossible. And it would be stupid if even available. Stevie is not only a great talent, he is the 'man', the absolute leader of this team.

Carping about Taylor is understandable. Carping about Mo getting hot, then ignored in SA, is worthy.

Come on, this team is elevating our hopes. I am trying to BELIEVE AGAIN. I am not there.

Rudy? He is good. Not flawless. Not clueless. I do wonder what would happen if Rudy went to the Presidency/GM of the team and someone else took the reins. Would there be a different end result -- better or worse? It is worthy of discussion and comment. I want to win. I want this group to get hot in March - April, get through the 1st round and challenge hard in the 2nd. I BELIEVE. But without a lot of conviction. But with a lot of frustration.

I was nodding about the "satified silent majority" part, JBC, not the "Nixon was right" part. Just wanted to be clear. ;)

That is an excellent point. I wonder that as well. No team in pro basketball or pro baseball has ever gone undefeated. It just doesn't happen and damn would it ever be boring as hell if it did.

Sometimes, losses are just tough to swallow and it feels like the end of the world even when it isn't I guess. I know I've felt that way.

Jeff, I think Apollo was directing the comment at the post directly above his.

Jeff, good point. The Rockets are clearly an inconsistent team. That's why we are so excited, positively and negatively. Maybe if we were winning consistently, it'd be pretty boring. If we played perfectly every game, if Rudy coached flawlessly, if we beat the heck out of everybody every game, then what could we talk about in this forum?

"Poll: Will the Rockets win by 25, 30, or 35 tomorrow against the Kings?"

"We have too much scoring at the 2, trade Mobley!"

"Fire Rudy, he lets Griffin block too many shots!"

"Rudy is an idiot, he never gives the opponent any chance"

"The refs are horrible, they thought the game was over when we led by 38 point at the half"

"Rudy is boring, he always makes the right substitute at the right moment. Can't he have more variety?"

Might as well make this a hangout forum.

You don't have "Dick Nixon to kick around any more."
