I don't know about pathetic; maybe in terms of PG's and centers. There are some pretty amazing players out there (Wade, anyone?) who aren't named Kobe and LeBron. Additionally, I think the baseline level of skill for players in the NBA has gone up a bit, so the competition has become a bit stiffer, meaning it's harder for individuals to dominate unless they have sublime skills like Mr. Jellybean, or are just plain physically dominant like LeBron and Yao, among others.

i might get some flame for this but in all honesty i think if i was CP3 i'd keep on doing what i'm doing. sure, its cheap, but its clearly working for him and as a competitor you just want to win right...

if flopping like a little p***y works and wins you games, then i would flop like a little p***y. the only thing i wouldn't do to win a game is resort to hurting other ppl like bruce bowen, if you are just flopping and putting on a show and winning, then whatever.

what makes this work isn't cp3 imo its the stupid refs. if the refs dont call that ****, then i'm sure cp3 would be forced to adjust and you can't argue that even without those bs calls he wouldn't be a pretty amazing pg.

those are the only videos I've found of extremely dirty dangerous non-basketball plays made by Chris Paul with the sole purpose of injuring/hurting the other player.. I guess the NBA does a good job of keeping negative videos of their poster boy off the internet..

as a matter of fact, I haven't seen a single game where he hasn't committed extremely dirty plays.. today against the spurs, he repeatedly slipped his foot close to Parker's landing in an attempt to "Bruce Bowen" him.. you can go back and check the tape..the guy is the epitome of an overglorified overrated dirty flopping crybaby thug.. I have ZERO respect for him and he's tied with Jason Terry as my most hated players in the NBA (Joakim Noah and the entire Jazz team are a close second).. what bothers me the most about him is his "I'm the $h!t" attitude, he thinks he's the greatest thing that ever happened to basketball, the next Magic Johnson, when in reality he would just be an average at best point guard if the refs didn't give him every single damn call possible and if he didn't pull his dirty antics. oh, and if the ESPN and NBA TV didn't have EVERY SINGLE POINT HE SCORES in the highlight reel, no matter of his team won or lost, they show at least 70% of the field goals he's made, and the commentator usually orgasms in the process of hailing him as the best thing that has happened to the NBA since Oscar Robertson.. same applies for LeBron..

Yeah, he is a flopper, but I'd still love to have him on this team. Trade Tmac for CP3!

I agree with Wade but wade also benefits from the new rules to a certain extent. In regards to the skill level going up, I have to disagree. Most people would say the skill level has gone down from the 80's and 90's. In the 80's every PG and wing could shoot. Rafer would not have been "all the rockets need". Yao would have barely been in the top 5 in regards to centers.

Kobe and LBJ would have dominated in any era. I think Wade would have been an all-star for sure but he would have been less effective with the old rules. Paul would have been pretty good but never would have been a MVP candidate. Deron Williams on the other hand would have been just as effective especially playing in Sloan's system.

    LOL

This is great stuff. How do you psychologically diffuse this?

I tell you what I would do if I were on the team opposing Paul. When he pulled that crap, I would laugh hysterically at him and start talking to him, keep the laughing going on, tell him he's the greatest, all the while he's making all them dookie faces at the refs and me. I'd get him to concentrate on not making me laugh, get him to thinking he has to punish me and get me to quit laughing at him. And just keep laughing and laughing, walk up throw my arm around him, tell him he's great. When he starts that cussing and stuff, trying to intimidate, just keep laughing. Laugh harder at him. The whole key with a guy like that, once you get him to break into a smile, just one time, it's all over. You know you've got his respect. He knows he can't unnerve you with his psychological mess. And then that tension on the court dissapates. That don't mean he isn't going to try his funny business again. He will. But next time he tries it, you are somewhere around the court grinning at him and he knows you are there. You become embedded in his mind. And he will take one of two paths. Either he will not even look at you because he knows you got him figured out and he don't want to be smiling out there. In other words, he will totally ignore you. Or he will look at you and start smiling becuz he knows you know what he's about. I'd even go so far to poke fun at myself to get that dude to laugh at me. Walk up to him and tell him, "Hey dude, I've seen your mits, if you gonna nail me in the sack, you'd better work on your aim, cuz my sack is so small today, you gonna have trouble finding it." Then he pops off with some bs wanting to get me upset, typically the gay stuff. Something like, "What's wrong with you fool, you some gay .. or sumth'n? Get off me." To which I would respond, "No, I just used all my stuff last night with your sister, we were doing it while watching you on TV do all that magic stuff with the bball." A veiled complement guised in a rib at him. And just keep laughing. Just toy with him and never let him get me upset, no matter what he said or did. That's part of Paul's magic, part of his game, pulling those antics and getting the opponent to get unnerved. Stockton pulled the same crap. Sure, it's dirty. Psychologal warfare is dirty. But it's part of the game. That's why the best players are the players with the highest capacity to stretch themselves psychologically. Their skill sets are similar. You could put a pile of them at the FT line and they all shoot with in 1 or 2 points of each other out of a hundred shots. You could line them up and they can all do a bunch of twisting spectacular dunk shots. But when you as a player can get into another person's psyche and start messing with them, that's where it's at. That is a skill that Paul has. He uses the little sucker punches and flops to accomplish it. Opponents should recognize it and get a player with a strong psyche to get in his head and mess with his psyche. If you do it enough, for long enough, he will figure out it don't work too well against you, so he'll have to go figure out something else. If he's smart, he'll start throwing jokes at you while you got the ball and are making a move, say something stupid to get you to laugh while you are trying to concentrate on doing something positive for your team. And back and forth it goes. Then you pull the trigger on him and say "..... you" and confuse the tar out of him. Then when he starts frowning, start laughing at him again. Psychological warfare, Paul plays it.

Or maybe it just shows you that teams aren't running as much and scoring 120 points a game.

    Truth. Period.

Every Houston supporters loves Deron Williams even he screws us all time. Why ? Because he's not a flopper, he doesnt get the advantage from refs like Paul did, he is playing truly amazing and he doesn't needs to flop even if Jazz losing.

I dont see people whining about Kobe Bryant flopping and giving him hatred. Kobe gets respect from his opponents. Same for Dwayne Wade. Its not HIS fault the refs blow the whistle when he drives. But he doesnt just fall down at the lightest breeze and then whine when the ref doesnt blow the whistle. He moves INTO the defender AWAY from the basket/his momentum to try and draw the contact nearly as much as Manu does.... He just plays the game.

This kind of conversation reminds me of a guy my dad used to tell me about playing with: He would go up for a hook shot with his right hand, and with his left hand he would slap his own leg. They had short shorts at the time so it would make a loud noise. He once told the ref "Didnt you hear that??" The ref said "Yeah, and I saw it too." They both laughed.

DWade would just laugh and move on. Paul would whine and pout. Thats the difference. Oh, and after several no calls Paul would throw a fit and then David West would elbow someone while setting a pick.

You say this like it's a negative. KJ was a damn good player. Jordan and Bird were better than anyone in the league today, and Zeke would be a top 5 player today. That's like asking why people make a big deal about LeBron because he's behind where Magic was at this point in his career.

    Turnover numbers is 3.03 for Paul, 3.47 for D-Will. Paul's efficiency is 29.82, D-Will 21.84.
