No flaming coming from me. Great thread. Paul is an amazing player and one of the TOUGHEST, most competitive players in the league, both mentally and physically.
Tough as they come. I don't subscribe to the theory that because you flop, you can't be tough. I find it entirely possible to be both tough and flop, even if they are generally opposing traits. Paul is a prime example. He's both tough and he flops. Allen Iverson is both tough and he flops. Kyle Lowry is both tough and he flops.
Why does everyone make such a big deal about Paul? His season is very similar to Kevin Johnson's third year in the league except for 3 pt percentage. However Paul get the luxury of playing in a league where its illegal to breath on someone on the perimeter. I don't remember KJ ever being mentioned in the same breath as Jordan, Zeke, or Bird. Chris Paul 08-09 NOH 67 67 38.1 .501 .345 .869 .9 4.5 5.4 10.9 2.8 .1 3.04 2.60 22.2 Kevin Johnson 89-90 PHO 74 74 37.6 .499 .195 .838 .60 3.10 3.60 11.4 1.28 .19 3.55 1.90 22.5
Great analysis. Now compare Paul's stats to every other PG CURRENTLY in the league. Only one is even close, everything considered.
No doubt that he is the best PG in the league right now but that just shows you how pathetic the league has gotten outside of Kobe and LBJ.
Not sure if he is as mentally tough. The Hornets at least twice against Houston in the last 2 years have lost their cool in games where the refs werent buying their flops, and the Rockets were playing stellar defense. As the leader, he has to get those guys to play ball even when stuff isnt going well. When he starts doing that, I'll subscribe to the mentally tough aspect. As it stands now, Chris Paul is the most talented PG in the league, but Deron Williams is better, and Paul has a long way to go. No respect for Paul from me. And its not easy giving it to a player on the Jazz over ANYONE. DWill >> CP3
I thought that was understood on all posts phrased similarly. Who knows BB, maybe its the other guys bringing Paul down to their level(West, Chandler, etc). With the postseason coming up, he has a great opportunity to "grow up" a bit.
That's true. He'll likely have plenty more chances to prove himself in the postseason, especially if the Hornets get enough talent around him for once or he goes to a new team at the end of his contract. He's welcome in Houston as far as I'm concerned.
Kyle Lowry is Chris Paul without the shooting ability. Everything else he has down- the good defense, court vision, poise, attacking the rim, orchestrator.
West?? Come on now..he was considered one of the softest players but, his been trying to fix that...or if you mean thug as a real "thug" their is NOTHING "thuggish" about him...some real thugs Ron Ron, Zach Randolph, Kenyon Martin, etc
