    Will Detroit Select Xue Yuyang?

Could Xue Yuyang (213-C/F-82) be headed to Detroit?

The Pistons have three picks in this year's NBA draft, and perhaps four because of trade options. They definitely have the 2nd and 25th picks in the first round and the 58th and last pick in the second round.

Detroit will keep its two first round picks, but as the Pistons had the best record in the Eastern Conference, the 58th pick has virtually no chance to make the roster.

Tony Ranzone, Detroit's Director of International Scouting, has spent extensive time scouting in China so he is familiar with Xue. It is possible that he has made a deal with Xia Song, Xue's agent, to take Xue to foster a good relationship with the agent. This could help Detroit in the future as Xia could guide Chinese free agents to Detroit as China's basketball skill improves and its players become far more desirable internationally.

Xue does have the physical ability to be a very good NBA player. Whether he has the discipline and determination to harness his ability is the question. But it will cost Detroit nothing to pick Xue and then wait a year or two to find out.

And China's Xue Yuyang, a 21-year-old seven-footer, is expected to follow the trail blazed by Yao, San Antonio's Mengke Bateer and Wang Zhizhi of the Los Angeles Clippers.
