We could certainly rebuild the post with a better style, but would you want to count it as one big error? or perhaps you would want to count each sentence as one error? Or would you want to do it by sentence fragment? or by each word? .... My point is that grammatical and syntactical errors can be counted, but stylistic errors are more objective and may not be counted.
Again I agree "style" should not be (and is not) in the game. But since when does semantics equal style?
hmmm... I got stuck on style there.... But still, how would one go about counting semantic errors? It's pretty subjective.
Oh yeah, I enjoyed changing the original poster's style (and subsequently meaning) to something else. Maybe I spend too much time at the D&D forum. I remember getting caught on the verb tense issue many times. I have no problem with the present tense use of 'get', but if it's used in the past tense, then a past tense should be used for 'need'. There isn't a real rule against multiple sentences joined with a conjunction. It's more of a consistency issue to prevent using multiple independent clauses along with dependent clauses. Use those a lot could get messy quicky. Speaking about style, it's been a while since I busted out the Strunk and White.
In general you are right. In this specific instance, though, there aren't that many semantic features that are controversial. The only two I am having problems with are "get what we need" and "one of the best small forwards and centers". IMO, they are related to semantics, not style. Just saw the new post by Invisible Fan, and I concur that joining multiple independent clauses along with dependent clauses is not a good idea. (But then again it's a style thing. Damn)
Sorry, I know this is off topic, but after seeing the thread title, I couldn't help myself: "Are you asking for a challenge?"
