Fisher is the well fitted PG for the job, knowing he run the offensed really well with Kobe and Shaq. I'll say bring him on!!
Didn't he start before this year? 4.3 is his career high for assists. Season before last, he started 82 of 82 games, and averaged 3.6 assists.
can someone please explain to me what's soooo good about BArry? and please do not mention SNOW....read up a little about this guy....he's washed out...getting slow and is injured a lot more than Fish. Fisher might be 30....but i'm not saying sign this guy for 10 years....a three year contract is reasonable....33 is a reasonable age in the NBA.
That's all I'm saying. The dude has some rings, & even though I hate the Lakers, that guy has hit some BIG shots, right? I'm for getting anyone though, really. Barry would be fine. Just tired of these "experiments."
One thing nobody's mentioning about DFish: He's been in 5 of the last 6 finals, and has appeared in 117 playoff games. If you leave off Mark Jackson, who is of questionable value next year at his age, Fish has nearly FOUR TIMES as much playoff game experience than anyone else on our roster -- in fact, his total are within reach of the rest of our roster combined (without MJ). Fish is by FAR the most playoff-tested PG on the market. With our extreme lack of playoff experience, he'd sure come in handy. And his stats show that he's a clutch player who steps it up a notch when the playoffs roll around. If we get past the first round next year like we should, this would be a very valuable person to have on the court.
As has already been said, he had started for a few years until injury and then Payton this year. As for Barry, he has played PG most of the last two years and has put up better assist numbers than most of the guys we could get (aside from Snow). Additionally he, like most other Barrys, has good court vision. Passing and PG skills should not be a concern to anyone. The real problem, and it is a huge one, is his complete lack of defense. If we had a high defense, blocking PF to go with Yao Ming, it might not matter. As it stands, Howard, while being a solid positional defensive player, is not an intimidator/eraser to which Barry's man could be directed. For these reasons I really want Barry but I have some reservations.
I don't weight experience to high when you're the 4th option on a team that's focused on two superstars. Why don't we get Rick Fox since he also has tons of playoff experience. These guys are average players that had the great fortune of playing with two superstars. They were very replaceable. GP was not very effective this year and he was starting over Fisher. Did experience help the Lakers against the Pistons? Did Derek Fisher do anything against the Pistons? Did he not get torched throughout the playoffs?
He asked what the fascination was with Barry, I answered. The Lakers have been getting torched by opposing point guards pretty consistently for a while now, but at least Barry can shoot. And as far as his playoff experience, Fisher's just another gravy trainer at this point- only he can't do the things that made him worth having anymore. I don't have a problem bringing him in as a backup for his experience, but I don't want him as the starting PG for this team- his numbers just don't warrant it. And I doubt he's interested in being a backup.
Remember, point guards in the triangle offense have deflated assist totals. The guy can take care of the ball and is great at generating steals. Plus he draws quite a few charges. I'm sure he'd love to play for a center that rotates on picks too.
Don't want him....he wants 7 million a year correct? His defense isn't what it used to be, and didn't Troy Hudson kill him in last year's playoffs. He can't play the pick n' roll worth crap. I'm sure the Rockets can find just as good a player without spending too much. Besides I hate Lakers players.
True, but the suddenly-terrible Gary Payton averaged more assists this year than Fisher ever has in his career. He still can't shoot. He does have a good assist/TO ratio though, can't argue with that. I just don't know if he can scale it up if he were to play a larger role in the offense. It seems like it would be easier to avoid mistakes if the pressure (to make the right pass or set someone up) is on someone else all the time. Also, i'm interested to see how good he is at drawing charges when he's not playing for the Lakers.
Fisher brings emotion. Maybe too much. All those tears on the bench were really sad. He's a clutch shooter and a smart player. I hated LA, but would love to acquire this guy. No more tears, though.
Did you guys watch Derek Fisher at all last season? He was a 35% field goal shooter and a 29% 3-point shooter for the season. For much of the season, I was wondering why this guy is even in the NBA anymore. There's no reason to settle for him when there are clearly better point guards available.
