I'm sure he could... that guy is a grammy winning musician, known as "one of the world's foremost practitioners of that genre." and thanks for sharing the links.
That's true, but he is also FROM memphis and I heard him play at a place called "Red's" in oxford ms to a crowd of twenty or so odd drunks. There are numerous examples of this, although I do realize that Alvin is pretty famous in his own rite. I think that he was in martin scorsese's pbs doc, where he received a lot of fame.
Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters are my 2 favorites but I am a little surprised that no one has mentioned Skip James and Blind Willie Johnson.
If you want blues in an upscale setting, check out the Capitol at St. Germain. It's around the corner from the Flying Saucer at Capitol at Main St. in Downtown Houston. They don't book blues every night, but they book alot of blues bands. On Saturday November 17th, they have this really cool blues band called the H-Town Jukes....
BTW....thank you for this thread. Blues is often overlooked, and I appreciate the love. I would like to turn you onto some blues that I love, and that has been an inspiration to me in my journey. The artists that were a part of the Excello records family, the swamp blues artists from Louisiana and East Texas, continue to be a huge influence on my playing and writing. Go check out Slim Harpo and Lazy Lester, and let me know what y'all think!
