Pay, This is the reason I signed on. For years others have conjured up reasons that the Rox don't win in the 4th. Rudy has never outcoached anyone for a win. Rudy is making $4M/yr! He can't fool all of the people, all the time. Les is just scared of the backlash! Tolbert said that the Rox has destroyed the NBA! All of the 3ptrs and lack of ball movement. Rudy is the only reason for this shift. Rudy goes home and laughs at all of us!
I'd admit I didn't understand some of Rudy's logic. During mid way of the 3rd quarter to the last minute, it seemed that the team stopped playing like a team and just lost its composure on defense. I mean its Rudy's job to keep the team in check and recognize the mismatches instead of relying on Steve so much. Certainly Jacobsen couldn't handle Rice, MoT was hot and Ming was a presence. I am not saying I am a good coach anything but I certainly saw the team breaking down.
Reason, I do the same. The coach determines who plays, what plays are called, favorable matchups and proper timeout usage. Rudy has fooled Les for a long time. Rudy the luckiest man to have ever lived!
nineteen, your not really, are you?? It's got to be a lower number by a few years, right? I posted in this thread because I didn't care for some of Rudy's decisions last night. I didn't know it was going to turn into a piss-fest with RT as the target. I'm glad he's the coach and I hope he is for a long time... it doesn't make him immune to criticism. He should have some aimed at him after what I saw at Phoenix. But some of this is just juvenile and ridiculous. Sorry for the interruption.
I don't expect much from a rookie center, that's why I said he should be on the bench in crunch time. What's the problem? I don't bash ming, i just say what everyone knows...he's a project.
When a guy who is 7'6" is getting out hustled for boards and instead of grabbing rebounds is tipping them, it means he's not a good rebounder. Ming should have had 5 or 6 rebounds. Rodman and Barkely would have gotten the rebounds in that situation, not fumbled or tipped them.
Of course, Amare's been averaging over 8 a game and he only had 1 last night in 6 more minutes than Yao. Yao definitely has to improve his rebounding, but I think he already is, and will continue to. He will never be a Barkley or Rodman, but I certainly foresee a day when he plays over 30 mpg and gets about 10 rpg, which would be decent.
That would be excellent, and when he gets there, he should certainly be in on defense at crunch time. But not before then.
We're not 'Rudy-bashers'... Many thinigs contributed to our loss, but IMHO it was Rudy's decisions that were most costly. Throughout the game, his poor decisions would frequently reduce the leads we had built up, the ISO's in the end were painful to watch, and the lineup on the last play was just wrong. I kinda felt that, in the last play, he shoulda put Ming in there. Make the Suns think that we're up to something sneaky. So they'd be thinking we were gonna run a play with Steve or Ming. Instead, we do neither: we put the ball in Taylor's hands. We only needed a 2 to win, Mo was hot, and the Suns wouldn't have expected it. What we did was just plain PREDICTABLE. The Suns anticipated what was gonna happen, and cut off Steve's drive, forcing us to take a shot we didn't want to take. One thing's fure sure, though.. we've improved dramatically... we're improving quickly, and we're more hungry than we used to be. I like that. Oh, and one other thing. I thought I'd never say this.... I'm really looking forward to getting Kelvin Cato back! There! I SAID IT! ... just doesn't feel right saying that.... but it's true droxford
Ok, no lie, I go to work today and get these comments from my assistant manager who is a die hard Knicks fan and watched the entire game last night. 1. Why didnt they have the big guy in there at the end? He looked pretty good when he was out there. At which point I noted that people were saying howhe was a rookie who wasnt rebounding well up till this point and wasnt looking good on D up until this point, but that I agreed with him. His response was something like this: Doesnt matter, he's 7'6", you tell him to camp in the lane and defend anyone attempting to put up easy shots....thats it, then call a timeout and replace him. 2. Did Mo Taylor get injured or something? He assumed this because Mo was on fire, and suddenly disappeared...his exact words was "Mo was Lighting the Suns up". I can live with Cat missing the freebies, that stuff happens. Loosing on a "skill" moment is much better than loosing because of stupidity. And Ill hold to it.....Rudy you coached stupidly last night. I cant believe Im still angry. Its been a long long time when a loss hung with me like this.....
There are several good post in this thread, but more than anything there are far more post derived from frustration. We have what we have. Had Eddie hit that three most of us would have been saying what a great game the Rockets played. They held the Suns to 88 points in there house, and also the Suns were on a winning striek. The crowed was in the game for the most part. The Suns really don't have a bad team as some would say here on this board. Do we over value our Rockets? Do we underestimte the opponet? Do we over look the fact that most of the roster is filled with one on one players? Do we hold Rudy in to high of regaurd? I think the answer to these questions is YES. Lets see what happens Sunday.
Your comment again proved my point. You are against Yao. Just put aside other aspects of the game for a moment, just look at rebounding. These are the stat I got from ESPN. Yao averaged 3.4 boards in 14 minutes. Cato 11 in 28 minutes. So Yao comes out to be 7 boards in 28 minutes. Not bad at all for a rookie. Of course, you said tipping the ball doesnt count. I guess keeping the ball alive doesnt matter if you were a coach. Watch some of Rodman's game, you'll see that he grabbed many rebounds by tipping the ball to himself. Yao might not be tipping to himself, but to his teammates does count. You said he should get 5 or 6 rebounds. I guess you really meant 5 or 6 boards in 14 minutes during the last game. That comes out to be 15 to 18 boards in 42 minutes of play. Of course assuming he wont foul out. WOW that is a monster number even for a veteran center. You sure set a very high threshold for Yao to be a decent player. In your book, not that many current centers could even start in NBA at all. Cato is playing great so far, I have no problem in starting him. But Yao is not that far behind, he should be able to play more. Probably we have already seen the best of Cato, but Yao most likely will continue to improve and surprise all the critics. By the way, if we play better defense as a team, Yao definitely will get into less foul troubles. Most of the time, he fouled because he was covering his teammates who lost their men completely. You thought you watched the last game. Please record it next time, so you could review the whole game before you post here again.
Lucky, This is a great call. Rudy's rum and coke has killed some talented Rocket teams. He has no playbook. Unorganized is a understatement! Watch the Rox after a timeout. The same play. No adjustments. The Assistant Coaches are scared to suggest something that makes sense. Watching a Rox game is like watching paint dry. Rudy has tricked folks long enough.
yea i hate it when they use that small line of moochie, francis, and mobley there no reason moochie should be on the court if francis and mobley are on. that one thing that really gets on my nerves.
Your first statement of diplomatic mediation was a little undermined by following it up with an " I'm right-you're wrong " line...
Im still waiting for someone to explain why Yao had to sit from midway through the third quarter. HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Anyone? If a guy gets 14 mins as a rookie but sux, I understand why to a point why he sits. But if he was having his breakthrough game.......why STILL only 14 mins??????? Did Yao suck last night? His game was very good last night. Whos claiming Ming was scored on almost every play? Nope. His guys almost didnt score at all while he was in. Re watch the game.
Deck, I like to use logical reasoning and facts when the Rox don't play well. If I was 12, would that make the facts untrue? I love it when small time insults are mixed in with logical reasoning. If you love the direction that the Rox are going in, then that's on you. Just don't expect basketball purists to agree with you. I've been an admirer of Clutch City since its inception. As a Senior Member, you should be aware of 30 years of NBA action that I've seen in person. If my post name was Billionaire, would that make it so? Just plain silly. Please, we need to expand our vocabulary beyond the word bash.
Why would I be against Yao? Don't be silly. You think if believe Yao would have been a positive difference there I would be against putting him in? Of course not. But Yao can't rebound, he doesn't know how to bang somebody and then take the board like the world depended on it. He took some strong in the beginning of the game, and I was like, hey, nice. Then he returned to the flailing an arm at the ball tactic that makes your cringe. I counted at least 3 or 4 missed that Yao should have gotten if he was a sabonis or anything else. Getting a rebound is more then sticking your hands up in the air and hoping it comes to you. It doesn't work that way in the NBA. He needs to just that butt of his to knock someone off the blocks. he doesn't fight for position, and he gets squashed between players...that's why he's tipping balls he should be getting easily. You can calculate it has 2 rebounds in x minute (14), but I look at it as how many rebounds that should have been his that he didn't get. When Yao starts getting those (like Cato does now), and Yao isn't so easily duped on defense (and i'm not even referring to the Marbury cross-over) by jumping into every driving player...then he can be in there at the end. If just because I disagree with you you have to turn it into something personal, well, what's the point? Why don't you just watch the game again and honestly look at his play instead of looking through homer-colored glasses.
No need to record or review any tape. You simpily ignore my valid points. It sure would be great for him to grab all those loose balls in the air. If he did, he would be averaging 20 boards a game. Then I guess you would say he is ready to start. The fact that he could get close to those loose balls, even though he couldnt grab them all, is pointing to his great potential. Putting other centers in his position, they might not even get the chance to get that close to all those loose balls in the air, albeit grabbing them. Read my post again, correct me if my numbers were wrong. I got those numbers straight from ESPN. Not just 1 game, they are the averages so far in the season. When you said he should have grab 5 or 6 in the limited minutes he played, didnt that pan out to be 18 boards for 42 minutes. Name someone who could average that last season. Isnt it true that his teammates kept losing their men, so Yao have to pick up their slacks. Did you watch the game at all. YOU ARE SETTING A VERY HIGH THRESHOLD FOR HIM TO BE EVEN CONSIDERED A DECENT PLAYER. DONT DENY IT. YOU ARE BIASED AGAINST HIM, OR YOU JUST DONT KNOW YOU ARE.
