The answer seems to be something more obscure than just he felt bad so he shot himself. I think he realized something when he ate the seagull -- something about the crew he left behind. This is also somehow tied to being on the west coast -- that seemed to be a pretty important clue. Is the answer somehow tied to migratory patterns of seagulls?
The thing that I do not know how to incorporate is that the West Coast is relevant. Were any of the captain's men killed by seagulls? if no, Were any of the captain's men eaten by seagulls after they died for other reasons?
Did this happen? The captain and crew were shipwrecked on an island. Once out of food, they started eating the weak until finally only the captain remained. When he was finally rescued, he was asked by his saviors how he survived so long. He attributed his diet to eating seagulls. When the ship returned to the west coast, he ate at the restaurant. To prove to others how much he loved seagull, he ordered it. When he realized how good it tasted and that he didn't have to eat his crew(plus the fact that the captain usually is the first to go by going down with his ship), he went suicidal.

A free copy of my game to the first person to tie it all together and get the scenario right. DaDakota
Is there a specific geographic location on the West Coast that is important to the answer? Was Wilson on the island?
did they eat seagulls while they were stranded? would he have killed himself redardless. was the gun a real gun? was it a flare gun? was him shootin himself an accident? will you give me a copy of your game anyways? will you give me a copy of your LOTR game so i can test it before it hits the market and tell you what is wrong with it if anything?
was he the captain of the exxon valdez? did the crewman thinkg the rockets should trade KT and that is why the captain ate them? would making a west coast link help us the most? do you fantasize about moochie in a g-sting?
The captain and his crew were stranded on a desert island. One of the crewmen told the captain that the others had been killed by wild animals on the other side of the island. That evening, the crewman made dinner for the captain out of a seagull that he said he had found. Once the captain was rescued he went to a restaurant and ordered seagull. When he tasted it, he realized that he had eaten his crew on the island and committed suicide.
Did the captain eat seagulls when he was stranded on the island? If yes, did he cook them first? Did the captain like the taste of the seagulls he ate in the restaurant? Did the captain like the taste of his crewmen? Did the captain like his crewmen?

man mrs. jb why did you have to beat me to thinking it wasn't just grief that made him kill himself but something he realized when he ate the seagull. anyway did an oracle say "when you eat the gull on the west coast you will shoot yourself" so he did did eating the gull remind him of playing a logic game on a bbs and the memory was so painful he shot himself is he allergic to seagull did he eat the last seagull on the west coast and it was supposed to go to that island so his crew could eat it and he felt bad i'll never figure out the answer will i
Did the captain kill himself because he realized that he could have saved his starving seamen by eating seagulls?
I know the answer to this becuase I've seen it before. These are great games on long road trips... Now, any other smart-asses who have seen this before, don't ruin it. Edit: oops - I repsonded to cached version of this message from this morning. Carry on
