OK here is what I think. THe captain was stranded on a deserted island with his crew(maybe it was Gilligan). All the had to eat was some sort of birds that were native to the island. While stranded some of the crewman died as a direct result from the captains actions(maybe he built a raft out of the dead bodies). When he gets home he eats at the resteraunt. THe sea gull tastes like the bird he ate while stranded. This reminds him of his plight and how he lost his friends. THat in turn drove him to off himself. CK
IS the relationship between the Capt. and dead crewman(men) significant to the answer? Is how the captain survived the ordeal important? Is how the captain got off the island important?
Was the crewman an immediate family member of the capt.? A son? A daughter? Did the captain use the body of the crewman as food? To attract food?
Okay, I'll solve Pat. The Captain ate so much seagull when stranded on the island that he swore upon being rescued that he would kill himself the next time he ate it. He wanted to kill himself, so he ordered seagull.

The crewman ate seagulls. The captain ate the crewman, and thus also tasted the seagull when he was eating them. When the captain ate the seagull it reminded him of eating his men, so he killed himself.
how about this. THe captain had to eat his dead crewman to survive. When he returned home he ate the seagull. It tasted like his crew and that threw him into a state of great grief. thus he felt responsible for the deaths of his crew and proceeded to join them in the afterlife. CK
