USA maybe is containing more freaking crazy brain-washed guys than China. I hope you can open your tearing eyes and do some research on Chinese before you call them crazy commies. Tips to keep Yao Ming: 1, keep him away from politcs. 2, keep him away from rich & warm California.
jeez....I was trying to illustrate how Yao was helpful in opening the eyes of some of the freaking crazy brain-washed guys we have here in our country. I completely forgot about the new language barrier hurdle we have on the BBS now. My apologies; I'll try to be more literal in the future.
Easy, Keep feeding him the ball like last night. Dont igonore him when he ran all the way from back at full speed.
one thing that never fails to surprise me is how anti-china people still are these days, its the only reason why sino-us relations will always have problems. ive been studying china from the inside and out for about 4 years now and when i come back home, i always get an earful from other americans about how much they think they know about china. let me tell you, americans are completely oblivious to china, all the r****ded yao comments about him coming from a communist country and how it will affect his career is crap. americans dont know the meaning of the word communism (conversely, the chinese in tiananmen didnt know the meaning of democracy) yes, he will have to play a few games for his country, but if jordan (pre-this millenium) played overseas you bet our ass he would come back to play. trust me, if yao was a 7-5 296 pound black guy from georgia (the country) we wouldnt hear half the stupid assumptions about yao, but maybe more comparisons to dream. i know this post wont change anything, you have to live and study in china with an open mind for more than a year to understand, but i when i read about someone trying to make a point using china's political system (because thats all americans think they know about china) its like hearing a kid talk about the boogieman in his closet. anyway, im not worried about yao moving out of houston, hes not the kind of guy to leave those who raised him and its obvious that he and rudy have a pretty strong relationship. id be more concerned about lebron james, after reading that one article about his parents and principal arguing over who kept the rim that he broke, im sure that hes going to play for 3-4 teams minimum because of his parents. oh well, thats my two bucks
Oh, the guys in pointed hats and burning crosses would complain about him if he were that big and black... Wait, those are the same guys whining now! Bwa ha ha ha!
You said Yao is loyal. That answers your own question. And the "China" factor is as big as you think it is. It's all about basketball. He'll stay, as long as Yao feels comfortable with the team, and rockets win games.
It is so interesting, actually funny that people got worried about something they believe they know a lot and actually do not. I don't want to get political, but this thread and the comments on the Mavs Board early this year on Wang Zhi Zhi's issue amased me. While i was gald to see people like nyquil82's understanding of the difference between cultures, many people here realy realy know little about the other side of the world. I worked for a Houston based US company and travel to Hoston a bit for business, i found lots of people there reply too much on CNN for their international stories, there are not much on though. CBA is a basketball association, not the governement. That is it. They do have some governmental influence but they are not the governing power. You can see it with WZZ issue, only thing they can do is to kick Wang out of the national team. As to Yao's contract, i believe the obligation to play for national team is the only bargain their with CBA. And I do believe the government has other things to worry about than which player goes to which team. So the answer is simple, if Rox get along with Yao, Yao will stay. If not, he will probably leave. And i don't see China as a clause here.
I'm a Chinese Yao's fan in Shanghai. I had simiar thoughts like Pole. I don'nt worry about Rockets, I don'nt worry about our governments, the only thing is CBA and its officials. The sports organizations in our coutry need more reforms, although they are better than years before. Come to see China if you have a chance, things are better here eachday.
You can't mix up WANG ZHIZHI and YM . Before zhizhi came to USA, he had played for BAYI club which is a club that represents the military. I think that zhizhi is still a "soldier" of Chinese military and his case involved a lot of politics' stuff. While Yao came from Shanghai which is one of the most opened and developed cities in China, they will make him happy as long as he is still loyal.
I got some photos of my hometown recently. It's also one of the most developed cities in China(call GuangZhou not ShangHai though). Before you guys get a chance to visit China, take a look at the link and get a little bit more about China. http://www3.sympatico.ca/josephineca/GZ/
Damn, didn't know guangzhou look like that too, but Shanghai is still da bomb (best city in China but im biased hehe ). Anyways, I think the chinese gov't has more things to care about than Yao Ming, it's more like the CBA and the National Team over there. The Natioanl Team prolly wouldn't care as long as Yao plays on the National team (what Zhizhi didn't do) and CBA, well a couple of high priced lawyers, lawsuits and possibly bribes ..... and things will be smooth from that point on out.
Agree! I am a Chinese. I don't think there will exist any possibility that the Chinese government could force Yao to leave Houston if Yao himself wants to stay here for life.
How to keep Yao Ming in Houston? Easy, pass a referendum to make him the: Mayor - with 3 championship titles. Governor - with 4 titles. President if Rockets get 6 !!! Seriously, there is another side of coin with the whole issue (or non-issue!). What if our Rockets achieve the ultimate title in Yao Ming's first or second year! We will have an allstar locked in some peanut rookie salary ( even if the maximum) for the remaining 2 or 3 years. Ooh, let's start campaigning for more discounted Rocket tickets now!!!
Nice. It looks like a very progressive, cosmopolitan city. Impressive architecture, much like Houston. Except for the fact it is MUCH more beautiful than Houston.
This is why at times I am embarrassed to be an American. We are so caught up in image instead of substance. It is a blessing to have Yao as a Rocket.
