There are some parallels here. Both teams are struggling to get back to their previous best. Phil Jackson is talking about retiring and riding off into the sunset (you know he's playing up this angle this year). You know Kobe has thought about it.

The difference here is that the Bulls were really falling apart. Pippen was out with his back and Rodman was ineffective. The Lakers seem to just be coasting.

you saying they're gonna pull a 3-peat? if so, i'd agree, it's a good strategy to model their season after the 97-98 bulls. i've been in pretty deep in some laker forums and there's been talk that a majority of the losses have been on purpose, that phil jackson is making them throw games because he's superstitious. he thinks the closer they are to the 97-98 bulls, the more likely he'll pull of the 3-peat. and what can you say? he's the greatest coach to ever coach, he's knows what he's doing. there's a reason why he's the zen master.

The lakers regardless of record are the best team in the Western Conference and 2nd in the NBA to the Celtics in my opinion.

as much as i love kobe, which i do.

they fell to 3rd best in the league imo

    1. celtics - its beyond amazing how much depth they have

    2. magic - underrated. known as an elite team. but once playoffs come, agent 1 will go ballistic, hedo will shine again, and howard will dominate. and they finally dont have someone who just camps all day at the three and is afraid to step up in rashard lewis.

Everyone thinks the Lakers will turn it on when they have to, including the Lakers themselves:

    :p

I'm not so sure he's right, but Ron Ron is always a funny guy.

The 97-98 Bulls were an old team. The average age of their starting line up was 34. Most of the current Lakers players are still in their prime. So I'd say that there's a lot more left in 11 Lakers than the 98 Bulls. The Lakers can still be a contender for another couple of years after Jackson retires.
