I could've made a better thread title, but this'll do. 911 operator tells woman about to be raped cops aren't available to her.... know whats sad that no one in government/law enforcement would admit is that for $200 she could've helped herself much better then the law could have:

    Should the dispatcher had lied?
If no help was coming . . . .him saying comforting words and giving her false hope would not have changed the fact.

The only question is . .. was help coming or not?
If it was the dispatcher lied and should be fired
If not . . . . I see little wrong with what he did.

This is not on the Dispatcher IMO.

If law enforcement lives that far out, then yes, I'd agree you probably should own a gun.

Hell, you could apparently just go around shooting people for fun, at that point. What are they gonna do... call the cops?

Oregon, the county or possibly the city could collect that much per capita extra taxes and get decently apportioned local, sheriff or state police out there.

On Tuesday, that county's voters turned down a levy that would increase property taxes specifically for law enforcement. The tax would have raised the average homeowner's tax to a total of $358.

I mean yeah some sort of defense would have helped. Not even talking gun, but like pepper spray? Maybe. But ultimately it's on that county. Unfortunately as rimrocker pointed out they put down a tax levy. And while the consequence in this instance was ugly, this is the republican system in which we live in and the loss of the right to determine these things for themselves through the democratic process would be an uglier result IMO.
