    Sonic Youth covering the Carpenters is perhaps the greatest cover song concept ever.



    Also, late 90s, but the soundtrack to the film Velvet Goldmine was some great faux 90s Glam Rock:

    Tried to post a few forgotten ones, I mean obviously AIC/NIN/Tool or any other band with multiple hits in the 90s could dominate a rock list. I prefer the live version of NIN song posted here.
