Sad , but not surprising. Basso , Bigtexx , Thumbs your relatives are bringing down this wonderful country.
now, where would they get an idea like that? The reckless right-wing nutjob media? or as another poster described it..... "They are fighting imaginary boogey men...." Folks, this is REAL! Another researcher discovered that white kids are racist at six months old. The article includes this gem of a quote: It's horrifying to imagine kids being "proud to be white."
I'm convinced that most of this stems from people being upset that a black man is running the show. Anyone waving a confederate flag to me is a racist (especially at this rally. really. whats the point in bringing that flag?). Hopefully when Obama has nothing more to do, he'll ban that stupid ass flag...Southern pride my ass.... Clinton and obama are damn near identical as far as policies go, yet i dont remember people 70 thousand people marching on Washington and telling Clinton to go back to arkansas. i could be wrong though.
I don't believe that it is possible. LOL So silly. Out of curiosity though, is it horrifying to imagine kids being "proud to be Hispanic" or "proud to be black?"
Totally agree. I hate HATE HATE the nonsense about the confederate flag representing culture to some people and having nothing to do with race. Yeah right. At least the Aryan Brotherhood doesn't try to say the Swastika doesn't mean they hate Jews. 1) Clinton had a Republican Congress to "check" him 2) Clinton never got this close to healthcare reform
Cause "WHITE PRIDE" has a different ring to it than "MEXICAN AMERICAN PRIDE" or "LATINO PRIDE". That's cause they're not the majority. Oooh the few and far disadvantages of being White.
To clarify, the only way you can be proud of your heritage is if it either has a good "ring" to it or if you are disadvantaged?
That's the entire point of minority race pride -- that they remain proud in the face of their disadvantage. White pride is pride in the face of advantage and is, therefore, gross.
yeah, republican congress aside...NOBODY referred to him as a Communist...a FREAKING NAZI (i question these people's understanding of who hilter was and what he did. who the nazi's were. etc.), a socialist...Obama basically took lessons from Clinton's tax policy. Also his healthcare plan is very similar (according to source. like many of these people i havent actually read the 1000 page bill) i just dont remember people complaining THIS MUCH. But, back to calling him a communist, socialist, a Nazi and comparing him to hiltler. It's hard not to question the intelligence of these people. Do they even know the the difference between having a Republican congress and Democratic congress? I would guess that A LOT of them dont. I WOULD GUARANTEE that even with a Republican congress, you would still see this kind of protest with "go back to kenya signs"
To be clear, can a Hispanic person who has never faced disadvantage still have pride? What if his family hasn't? I can't say that I've ever considered "racial" pride before. The only thing I ever consider about my own racial history is the state of Native Americans, and pride isn't something that comes to mind.
i would say it's the heritage that people are proud of, not the color. Hispanics are usually not proud of being hispanic as much as being proud of being Puerto Rican, or Mexican, or Columbian, or whatever culture they come from. Just like Irish are proud of being Irish, German decendants are proud of being german etc. Not a race thing, but a heritage thing. i might be wrong but "black pride" started at an extremely volatile time in our history. Black people (and other minorities) were, lets face it, not treated like humans (and that's putting it nicely).....they had to overcome the majority trying to segregate them, trying to push them out of the schools, trying to make them inferior....etc. and if there was such a term, "white pride" back in the 50's and 60's, you were probably in the KKK
Racial pride is not especially helpful in any circumstance, I don't think. But minorities are expressing a pride in a culture, not a race. Discrimination binds one race together (Latinos, blacks), regardless of heritage, in a culture of disadvantage. An African born black experiences this in much the same way as a Hawaii born one. And either will have difficulty catching a cab in certain neighborhoods. And Puerto Ricans and Spaniards might feel the sting of English-first stuff equally. What binds white people similarly? There's nothing untoward about Irish pride or Italian pride or Polish pride, but what defines "white culture?" Only the advantage of historical superiority. So when someone expresses pride in his whiteness, this is what he celebrates. Again, gross.
I see what you mean. Never thought about it like I said, but what you have typed makes perfect sense.

agreed. not sure I agree with you whole-heartedly on that. and yet intraracial crime is vastly higher than interracial crime. using your logic, I should have a "bind" with every white person because white people are the butt of a lot of african american's and latino's "comedy" routine. so white people have nothing to be proud of per se? but blacks/latinos do? interesting.
