Soccer is probably the toughest sport to play (besides maybe american football and ice hockey). To say the U.S. doesn't have great athletes playing soccer is a joke. I've been playing soccer my whole life and when i moved to the U.S. learned to play Basketball and football and I am pretty good at those, I can compete with the average people who play. Take those same average people or even those very athletic college type basketball, football and baseball (boringball) players into a soccer game and they will have a hard time competing. Soccer is tough! You have to be fit and have skills to dribble, pass and control the ball especially at very fast speeds. You also have to have the vision and knowledge to see runs and make runs. Some of the best basketball players have their roots in soccer (Our own "Dream", the hated Kobe who lived in Italy a long time, and I think Mr. BIG fundamental himself Duncan). They all credit soccer with improving their footwork and overall basketball game.
I'm taping the game as we speak(or write). I hope everything goes well(you never know with this videorecorder(not somethimes the tape are of a bad quality, but this was the only one i had access to). I will mail you tomorrow if all went well. I have asked a few guys about a internet adres to watch the game, but they didn't know any, i will ask some other people.
i can't get the rte site to work...any other ideas??? there's an irish soccer forum i'll check out to see if they know of any other sources. are you watching arno??? what's happening??
sorry i'm not watching, but after 20 minutes it is still 0-0. this site works. with updates. http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/t/matchcast/index.html About holland. the goal of van der vaart was brilliant. Andorra is a disgrace for soccer. They are just trying to hurt the dutch players, and now Coca got a red card unbelievable. but 3-0 is a good score for half time. Before the gameVan basten said that the minimun acceptable score was 6-0
i think badiane played soccer too...didn't help him much. soccer didn't help those guys have great footwork. hard work and the already present amazing athletic talent helped those guys. i played soccer for a long time too and it is no more difficult than the sports you compared it too.
Knowing DREAM was a goalie made me want to be a GOALIE. It's the position I play more often. arno_ed, watching Andorra play is like watching Trinidad & Tobago vs. any other team. I remember one Trini player bursted Cuauhtemoc Blanco's knee on a dirty play. Blanco was out a whole year before he could play again. I don't know what the American English-Speaking TV stations are thinking... show some SOCCER!!!! Freakin' espn and espn2 suck ass. ¡¡¡pasen FUTBOL!!!! P*nch*s ESPN y ESPN2 la cagan. ------------------- Tonight's games on TV | Juegos de hoy en TV: Mex. vs. Panama 9:00 cst on Telemundo U.S. vs. Guatemala (r) 11:30 pm cst on Telemundo
i agree..wonder if they could literally get the feed from European channels and just run it here? i know the costs of covering soccer around the world would be high for them...and may not justify the outlay. but with all the poker and other crap they show, i'd much rather seen world cup qualifiers during the day. i could tune that in, no problem. as it is, i'm getting an inconsistent streaming feed from Irish public radio. i would love for this game to be on espn2 right now.
It's a shame that ESPN has the rights to US soccer games, they always treat it as the b*stard child. If Fox Soccer Channel or Gol TV was allowed to show them I'd be much happier. ESPN2 will be showing tonights game delayed at 9 central.
Yeah Kasey Keller immediately came to my mind. He has make unbelivable saves time after time. In one of his saves in the Trinidad and Tobago game (8/17), he had like 1 second to react and dive to prevent the ball from going in. The other one is Tim Howard who is playing for Man U now. That guy has catlike quickness.
The US absolutely doesn't have its best athletes playing soccer. Take all those guys who grow up in the inner city dreaming of playing in the NBA and grow them up on soccer and they would be really good. Our soccer pool consists of suburban white kids who can't make the high school basketball, baseball or football teams.
