What was the point of listing how many World Cup these countries have not won?

You're either living in a fantasy world or flat out stupid. Here are the results between the US and Mexico since 2000.

    June 11 2000: USA 3 - Mexico 0
    Oct. 2000: USA 2 - Mexico 0
    Feb 28 2001: USA 2 - Mexico 0
    July 1 2001: Mexico 1 - USA 0
    April 3 2002: USA 1 - Mexico 0
    June 17 2002: USA 2 - Mexico 0
    May 26 2003: USA 0 - Mexico 0
    April 28 2004: USA 1 - Mexico 0
    March 27 2005: Mexico 2 - USA 1
    Sept 3 2005: USA 2 - Mexico 0

So in the last 10 meetings, you've won 2 games to the US' 7. Furthermore, you've scored 3 goals in 10 games compared to our 14. We are CLEARLY the better team, if you can't admit that, you have some problems.

Wow, RocketFan... I hadn't even realised it was quite that bad for Mexico. Swoly, please come up with an argument as to why Mexico is better. I'm interested in your reasoning.

EDIT: Dang. That DOES make me look stupid. Thanks a lot, RocketFan007. There's no excuse for my country's FUTBOL demise. As Rocketeer put it, mistakes DO cost you the game. :(

Ace, I read your post as soon as I submitted mine. Check it:
Ahhh, CRAP... sorry. I DID mean to post that...

THE U.S. Played their asses off. They played much better than us and they whipped us in the World Cup. Seriously, I did mean to write that, but I was so pissed my team lost that I took YOUR team for granted. Granted, pardon the redundancy, at home they're beatable, just NOT by Mexico. Tough to call in NEUTRAL ground, but Mexico did not beat the United States in the World Cup, a neutral place.

RocketFan007, have you seen what ACE has been saying? OK, I will take that back and say they are "at the level", because they've beaten us.

Is it fair to say that the U.S. steps it up one notch (maybe two) ONLY when they play Mexico because it's a "special" game? They manage to allow Trinidad 1 goal... that was earlier in the hexagonal tournament. How do you explain that? What I am saying is that United States is only good AGAINST Mexico. Is that a fair assessment or not?
    ------------------

Yeah, I think the US only play with more cojones against mexico, because you see the results vs other teams and its not impressive.

Is like when the rockets played with more cojones against spurs or mavs.

    -----------------

Thank you for the respect SwoLy-D.

I think it's a combination of things, yes they step up because it's Mexico, but they probably don't bring as strong of a team for other CONCACAF matches and don't take the other teams as seriously. But we have given some thumpings to other countries during qualification, there's been a few 3-0 wins and a 6-0 game against Panama.

Also, the US still has a better record in the hex stage of qualifying (6-1-0) than Mexico (5-1-1). So obviously we do perform well against other opponents. Of course since we'll be using B teams for the rest of the matches there's a good chance that will change.

    2-0. The scoreboard doesn't lie. :)

I have seen a few games of the Mexican national team this year and I agree they didn't play anywhere near their best on last Saturday. But the combined result of the last ten games between these two teams does say a lot about who is better.

DrLudicrous, since you point out the better record the U.S. has, only those who have been following this last stage can notice the teams have beaten each other for their only losses, and Mexico's draw with lowly Panama is the sole blotch besides the loss. Hopefully, and I do mean this, both teams records remain with only those two lossses and that tie. It's funny how you guys like to bring up the last 10 games instead of the last 2. :D But that's cool, enjoy it.
    -----------------------

That picture is bad, by the way. "In our house, the only TRI is RED WHITE AND BLUE" in the back.

:) there ya go Swoly! I knew ya had it in you!

The US does kind of show up even stronger when they play Mexico. I'm just hoping for another WC like the one in '02. Now that was exciting!

Of course! That's why rivalries are so great to watch. That's why I am rooting like crazy for Germany vs. Holland in next year's World Cup, among other teams of course.

The US is a good team, but not nearly great or anywhere near the top teams. They are midpack IMO. I wouldn't consider the FIFA ranking very reliable until those teams play one another more consistently.

Well, the US did pretty well in the last world cup against top competition. We beat Portugal and played Germany tough. Not to mention our azz-pouding of our neighbors to the south...lol

If this country ever starts sending good athletes to play soccer instead of basketball, football or even baseball, we'll start winning a lot of big time games. Not sure if that will ever happen, though.

I need to also add that matchups, and style of play play a big factor in these matches. For instance Mexico ALWAYS gives Brazil fits but is not anywhere near the level of Brazil.

As a fan of the Mexican soccer team it is so frustrating to watch the midfield. They need to think about moving Marquez in there and try that? I don't know, but there is alot of work to do for La Volpe.

I'm not really sure what you are trying to prove here? and why do you include Hungary?

I didn't know that usa won that many times of the last matches against mexico.

Madmax good luck against France, i shall be rooting for you. I hope to see ireland in the WC, but i think it will be dificult they have to win tonight.

Why all da hate on Holland? You know I have to say something about it ;)
Man, the FIFA world rankings are a joke. Look out for Holland in '06, I think they'll win the first WC this year. They have a great young nucleus. I love Brazil, I have always loved them but Holland is my #2 and they have never won it so I hope they meet in the Final and Holland prevails. If this doesn't happen, I hope Cameroon or Nigeria go very far and one of them win it all.

Anyone catch the Man-U vs. Arsenal FA Cup semifinals game from 1999 on FSC on Monday? What a game!

    A. These are world class athletes. Some could have easily been successful at any other sport.

    B. We have started winning "big time games". You say that as if beating Portugal, Poland, and Mexico in the World Cup aren't big time games. Getting to the quarterfinals of the World Cup is no small feat.

Not to mention DOMINATING play in the QF match with Germany, only to lose on a nice header....the USA should have been in the Semi finals of the WC, which is a MASSIVE leap forward in a short time.

    GERMANY 2006 baby !!

    USA USA USA

thanks, i might listen to it. however one of the advantages of living in europe is that soccer is very easy to follow (unlike basketbal), tonight there will be a couple of highlights of games, and Ireland France will be one of them,(atleast i hope).
I really hope ireland will win, because like i dais ireland is one of my favoratie teams(since1988) and i do not like france.
