Predictions: Best Picture- 12 Years a Slave Best Director- Alfonso Cuaron Best Actor- Matthew McConaughey Best Actress- Cate Blanchett Best Supporting Actor- Jared Leto Best Supporting Actress- June Squibb (upset pick) I've actually had the opportunity to watch almost every Best Picture nominee- they're all pretty good- haven't seen Philomena, though. Personal favorite is Nebraska- not sure why. Inside Llewyn Davis should have been nominated. Oh, and screenplays- Her and 12 Years a Slave- Her is really creative, definitely deserves to win.
Best Picture- 12 Years/Gravity Best Actor- Bruce Dern Best Actress- Judi Dench Best Supporting Actor- Jared Leto Best Supporting Actress- Lupita Nyong'o
This is what it will be, except I'm pretty sure it's a forgone conclusion that Jennifer Lawrence or Lupita Nyong'o will win Best Supporting Actress, but I always like an upset pick.
Best Picture: 12 Years a Slave Best Director: Alfonso Cuaron, Gravity Best Actor: Matthew McConaughey Best Actress: Sandra Bullock Best Supporting Actor: Jared Leto Best Supporting Actress: June Squibb Agree Inside Llewyn Davis should be nominated. Saw all the best pic nominees except Philomena and Captain Phillips they were all pretty good but I liked The Wolf of Wall Street the most.
Best Picture: 12 Years a Slave Best Director: Alfonso Cuaron, Gravity Best Actor: Bruce Dern (Upset Pick) Best Actress: Cate Blanchett Best Supporting Actor: Barkhad Abdi (Upset Pick) Best Supporting Actress: Lupita Nyong'o
Let me tell you, Bruce Dern really deserves to win best actor, not as a lifetime thing, but b/c he plays that understated thing perfectly throughout the whole film. Man, that dude Payne is really a talented director- look at his first 6 films: Citizen Ruth Election About Schmidt Sideways The Descendants Nebraska Always this really cool blend of drama and comedy- like the Coen brothers.
I keep debating on whether or not to check out Nebraska, so yall are really in favor of it? I checked out the preview, and it looked interesting, but also looked like it may lull me to sleep. I'll have to give it a chance.
Just my personal rankings of the ones I saw, not official "picks" of what will win BEST PICTURE 1) Nebraska 2) Wolf of Wall Street 3) Dallas Buyer's Club 4) American Hustle 5) Gravity 6) Her 7) 12 Years a Slave 8) Captain Phillips (***did not see) Philomena BEST ACTOR 1) Matthew McConaughy 2) Leonardo DiCaprio 3) Christian Bale 4) Bruce Dern 5) Chiwetel Ejiofor BEST ACTRESS 1) Cate Blanchett 2) Amy Adams 3) Sandra Bullock (***did not see) Judi Dench (***did not see) Meryl Street BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS 1) Jared Leto 2) Michael Fassbender 3) Jonah Hill 4) Bradley Cooper 5) Barkhad Abdi BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS 1) Lupita N'Yongo 2) Jennifer Lawrence 3) June Squibb 4) Sally Hawkins (***did not see) Julia Roberts OVERALL IMPRESSION Lots of good movies this year, but I'm not sure there was a truly great one, more of a balances field, but not a glaring few at the top. Most of the nominees deserve to be there, except for Captain Phillips and 12 Years a Slave imo. Both fine movies, but nothing special. Two movies that I would have rather seen in there were Saving Mr. Banks and The Way Way Back.
Yes, it's definitely worth seeing. I, too, contemplated watching Nebraska or 12 Years a Slave for several days. I ended up watching Nebraska Thursday night and was truly impressed with the movie. Although it starts out sober, the movie finds a way to pull it together with a powerful and touching message for all of us who cherish moments with our fathers. If you enjoyed Bruce Dern's performance on HBO's series Big Love, you'll love him in Nebraska. I'll need to watch 12 Years a Slave sometime before Sunday's Oscars.
Check out that one and the other 5 when you get a chance. Citizen Ruth and Election are wickedly funny satires, About Schmidt is a bit similar to Nebraska, and Sideways is just one of my all-time favorites. The Descendants is pretty good, too. All of them have interesting things to say and are pretty observant about certain truths (like the fact that not every old person is in awe of things like Mount Rushmore- from Nebraska- , and how if we're late to something, we can panic and just as quickly blow it off- that was Sideways. Plus, Citizen Ruth pokes fun at both sides of the abortion issue nicely).
The only movie I've seen out of the Best Picture nominees is Gravity. What movie is going to win? I'll go see it tonight.
Obligatory "if you think it's stupid, why even waste putting a stupid-ass comment in the thread? Because you're a ****, as usual.
BTW, what do you think sports competitions are, anyways? They're "awards shows" that have winners and losers. So, that must mean you're an idiot for following sports. Welcome to the club.
