You mean high percentage shots created for himself? I guess it could be a composite of FGA/min, FTA/min, TS%, and NotAst'd%.
PGs with a positive or neutral defensive rating <table border="1"><tr><th>Player</th><th>Defense Adj +/-</th<th>Error</th></tr></table> Price, Ronnie 6.04 1.86 Snow, Eric 2.44 1.30 Gibson, Daniel 2.37 1.19 Fisher, Derek 1.55 1.06 Farmar, Jordan 1.48 1.44 Knight, Brevin 1.47 1.20 Davis, Baron 1.46 1.10 Duhon, Chris 1.21 1.19 Hinrich, Kirk 1.26 1.11 Jackson, Bobby 1.25 1.16 Lowry, Kyle 1.23 1.67 Barea, Jose 1.06 2.27 Cassell, Sam 0.61 1.09 Pargo, Jannero 0.54 1.26 Kidd, Jason 0.49 1.08 Watson, Earl 0.31 1.23 Felton, Ray 0.28 1.33 Ollie, Kevin 0.04 1.73 Williams, Deron 0.00 1.52
yeah something like that...it seems like somehow adding that to the +/- numbers would help. not sure how to balance those 4 but i think a player's ability to create his own shot over a player who cannot is ignored with some of the basketball stats.
But if that actually helps his team win, that should be captured by these ratings. So, even though Tracy isn't a particularly efficient offensive player, he still has a significant positive impact on the offensive end (according to this analysis) because of his shot creation abilities.
hmmm...i can't really put my finger on it but some things just don't make sense. clearly these numbers are not a holy grail but when you have distortions that show chris paul as being the 5th best pg and deron williams the 7th best pg then there is something clearly wrong. i could go thru every position where there are big anomalies but i'm too lazy.
I manually calculated the percentile rank for every player, found the lower and upper bounds for offense and defense that I was interested in, plotted that in the graph, manually drew a rectangle over the plot based on those points, than deleted the points. The xls file isn't very interesting, trust me.
first time really seeing those stats, but a lot of them makes sense actually. Thanks for posting this... interesting stats.
I think Morey is smart enough to use many different models that gives him an idea of what the players do from different perspectives. And he takes into account what his coaches and player-personnel guys say. He's not relying on any single formula.
Head was positive overall? And his strength was his defense... DJ Strawberry came in as a horrible offensive player and very bad defensive one
