Slumdog Millionaire was a good movie but way overated. It's basically City of God which in my opinion is better.

    i think it was..

and i am surprised that title track for "The Wrestler" didnt get a nomination. Slumdog deserves it and i am happy abt the two nominations for Rahman , me being an Indian.. but still .. ridiculous

I hope Mickey Rourke gets an oscar.. he was just fab in The Wrestler.. great performance.

for someone who has next to nothing knowledge of Nixon and spygate, is Frost/Nixon worth watching. i can sit through a good drama but does this one require backstory to get it?

I couldn't disagree more on The Reader. My wife and I both loved it. The acting and directing, as well as the screenplay, were incredible. Winslet certainly deserves her nomination. So did a couple of others in the flick, who didn't get a nod.

I saw it on Saturday. What a fantastic movie. I hope it wins everything it's up for. I don't think anyone could have played Nixon better.

IMO, yes, you need to know the backstory first.

In the book, you're not supposed to realize she can't read until much later on, in the movie they bash you over the head with it 10 minutes in! And then they have the gaul to tout a "surprise you'll never see coming" in the previews - pathetic. The nudity was gratuituous - I mean it makes sense for the sex scenes, but then they just went overboard with it. I'll grant that Kate Winslet was pretty good (especially when she was older), but the kid was horrible, Ralph Finnes did nothing, and the directing was just awful. My wife who loves anything Kate Winslet does and loved the book left appauled. At least 50% of the critics agree too if you read the reviews.

It was a promising story that the director and the screen writer just butchered. The only reason it got nominated was Harvey Wienstein bullied it in.

Slumdog Millionaire is currently the money favorite in Vegas for Best Picture.

Mickey Rourke and Kate Winslet are the favs for Best Actor and Best Actress.

I simply disagree. It's not unusual for me to love a movie that some critics and moviegoers dislike. My moniker comes from a character in a film that was panned when it came out and deviated quite a bit from the book... Blade Runner, now seen as arguably the best science fiction flick ever made. Different strokes for different folks.

Hugh Jackman is extremely talented. He was a great choice to host the show.

I have been a fan of his work since Swordfish back in 2001.

If you're spanish, you can be proud of a woman like Penelope. He's adorable, smart, inteligent and has a lot talent at his work.
