Then why not ban alcohol? I can't think off too much good that can come from that. I don't even like guns. Accidents happen, its unfortunate, but the government should not be trying to regulate everything.

we tried but it didn't work.

the only thing we can do is make the punishment worse and worse which is what is going on right now.

drunk driving kills entirely to many people every year.

no it does not. You are missing the other side of the equation which is the benefit to detriment ratio. A 1% improvment on auto fatalities is very significant, unlike a 1% from firearms.

The whole point I am trying to make is, we have limited resources, if you do not put your effort into what can do the most good it seems like you have an ulterior motives.

The top 3 preventable deaths: 1. poor excercise and eating habits 2. smoking 3. alcohol related deaths

The creed by Dadakota is certain guns are "not needed" and cause death, and should be banned. To contrast this issue, let's look at other things that are "not needed" and cause death.

The .50 cal. BMG is banned in California...It has been used to commit ZERO criminal deaths

We can't say the same thing about alcohol induced homicides. We have heard about someone under the influence of alcohol causing the deaths of an entire family...We heard the story about little 7 year old Suzy getting an A+ on her school report and her mother taking her to get ice cream (her favorite)and on the way a drunk driver went through a red light at 92 MPH killing them instantly...not just self-inflicted. You are absolutely wrong on that. (nevermind the affected relatives)

75,000 alcohol related deaths in the U.S. per year that should be preventable. More than gun related deaths, and that's only #3..... poor excercise/ eating habits and smoking is much higher...

DaDakota doesn't believe in prioritizing when attacking guns because gun-related deaths is not in the top 3 preventable causes of death. His premise on why guns should be banned is due to his stance on guns being "not needed" ...So his logic surely...surely...applies to smoking, alcohol, fast food, T.V., etc. since these things are "not needed" like guns and cause death...(except at a much higher mortality rate)...

Guns are indeed used in bad ways to good people, but guns also have been used by good people against bad people to halt a crime or such...(sometimes without a shot taken)...I do know Hitler would have had great difficulty if the Jews were allowed to be armed (In my father's lifetime, not that long ago...)

My suggestion to save lives is to examine what we do regarding our approach to the top 3 preventable deaths:...education, education, and reasonable regulation.
Reasonable regulation as defined during FDR's presidency happens now. This great President supported reasonable regulation, the firearms act of 1934 to BALANCE gun rights and the collective vanguard of the general public...That is reasonable and acceptable. Attempts to further ban IS NOT acceptable.

Sure, we can save lives by taking things away related to preventable deaths such as guns, alcohol, smokes, fast food, T.V., motorcycles, etc. but I'm not sure I want to "live" in that world...

Except aren't fully automatic machine guns pretty much already banned?

I'm not sure our gun laws need to be increased but I certainly think that machine guns are scary and dangerous and I think this incident illustrates that. The fact that these incidents are so rare I suspect has something to do with the fact that machine guns are so tightly regulated.

I don't support banning any guns, but we should unleash the trial lawyers on this one. Press charges against the dad, sue the "professional", and investigate whether it's a dangerous design and maybe sue the manufacturer. "Buyer beware" doesn't work on something that can kill as easily as a gun. If it puts the Uzi manufacturer out of business, so be it.

well the gun was probably made over 20 years ago so I doubt anyone is gonna do that.

If they rented the gun whoever gave it to them is probably broke in a few years.
